An apparatus includes multiple radio-frequency (RF) circuits, a number of Bluetooth (BT) cores and a processor. The BT cores are coupled to the plurality of RF circuits. The processor is coupled to the BT cores to control operations of the RF circuits and the BT cores. The RF circuits, the BT cores and the processor are implemented as a system on a chip (SoC). Controlling the operations of the RF circuits and the BT cores can be performed by controlling register spaces associated with the RF circuits and the BT cores.

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for an enhanced data rate, low energy wireless communication. Devices may communicate over predetermined wireless bands such as the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz ISM bands, using &#x3c0;/4-differential quadrature phase shift keying, with physical layer rates of 1, 2, 4, 8 Mbps or higher. Symbol timing may be at any frequency, and may be 256 ns in some implementations. In some implementations, to extend device battery life, devices may use a low latency reconnect mechanism allowing frequent hibernation or shutdown of transmitters and/or carriers.

Enhanced data rate low energy wireless communications

A system for facilitating communications in a mesh network is provided. One or more devices of the mesh network may participate as routing nodes to provide range extension for any other devices in the mesh network that would otherwise be out of range from one another. In one or more implementations, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) may be used as the physical transport of the mesh network.

A multi-cast multi-poll scheme for BLUETOOTH low energy (BLE) technology to be used by one or more mobile devices within a communication environment is disclosed. A broadcaster communication device comprises a transceiver that is configured to communicate with a plurality of recipient communication devices. The broadcaster communication device further comprises a controller that is configured to transmit a packet to the plurality of recipient communication devices and to receive, at predefined time intervals, responses from the plurality of recipient communication devices according to a pre-negotiated order without transmitting any additional packets.

A wireless device implementing secure connection establishment may include at least one processor circuit. The at least one processor circuit may be configured to receive an advertising packet from a device over a first channel and generate, in response to receiving the advertising packet, a connection request packet that comprises control information for establishing a connection with the device over a second channel. The at least one processor circuit may be further configured to encrypt and authenticate at least a portion of the connection request packet based at least in part on a connection entry key previously exchanged with the device and transmit the at least partially encrypted connection request packet over the first channel. The at least one processor circuit may be further configured to establish the connection with the device over the second channel based at least in part on the control information of the connection request packet.

Secure connection establishment

A technique to open a single receiving window to perform scanning and initiating operations in a Bluetooth Low Energy compliant device, instead of using two separate receiving windows to perform the equivalent operations. The combining of the scanning and initiating operations in one receiving window, instead of two separate windows, reduces power consumption and provides for bandwidth efficiency.

A method of communicating data in a Bluetooth&#x2122; low energy (BLE) module is provided. The method includes modulating an outbound communication signal into a modulated signal with a particular modulation scheme based on a modulation type, and transmitting the modulated signal to a remote device via a wireless communication connection associated with the modulation type. The method also includes receiving an inbound radio frequency (RF) signal, determining if the inbound RF signal is associated with a modulation type, and demodulating the inbound RF signal with a particular modulation scheme based on the modulation type if the inbound RF signal is determined to be associated with a modulation type. In some aspects, the inbound RF signal and outbound modulated signal have symbol rates of 2 Megasymbols per second. In some implementations, the method includes switching between a legacy BLE system and an enhanced rate BLE system.

Enhanced rate physical layer for Bluetooth&#x2122; low energy

A method for managing connectivity of a central device with a peripheral device is provided. The method includes determining a location of a central device, determining a proximity of the central device to a peripheral device group based at least in part on a comparison of the location of the central device to a location profile associated with the peripheral device group and adjusting a scanning duty cycle of the central device in response to the determined proximity of the central device to the peripheral device group. Bluetooth Low Energy modules and systems are also provided.

Managing connectivity between wireless devices

A system and method using ANT and/or ANT+ protocols for one or more ANT and/or ANT+ applications. The system can include a Bluetooth interface and a Host Controller Interface (HCI) that are configured to process incoming and outgoing ANT and/or ANT+ messages from/to one or more ANT and/or ANT+ enabled devices. The ANT and/or ANT+ messages can be communicated to one or more ANT and/or ANT+ enabled devices utilizing a Bluetooth transceiver. The Bluetooth interface and the HCI can be configured to wrap one or more ANT and/or ANT+ messages with a header and/or to remove a header from one or more wrapped ANT and/or ANT+ messages. The header can be an HCI compatible header.

Host controller interface and messaging method for ANT applications

Systems and methods for implementing Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communications are provided. In some aspects, a method includes receiving, by a first BLE device, a first advertisement packet from a second BLE device. The first advertisement packet includes a payload encrypted based on a predetermined key. The method also includes decrypting the payload of the first advertisement packet using the predetermined key. The method also includes processing, by the first BLE device, the decrypted payload. At least one of the receiving, the decrypting, or the processing is performed without a BLE connection being established between the first BLE device and the second BLE device.

Systems and methods for implementing bluetooth low energy communications

Disclosed are various embodiments of Bluetooth low energy (BLE) modules and methods implemented therein. An embodiment of the disclosure can obtain in a BLE module an advertiser packet transmitted by a BLE advertiser. An advertiser cache can be checked to determine whether the advertiser cache in the BLE module contains an entry associated with an advertiser address from the advertiser packet. The BLE module can determine whether a payload value of the advertiser packet has changed relative to a previous advertiser packet associated with the advertiser address. The BLE module can then suppress forwarding of the packet to a host processor and/or on-board processor executing firmware. The BLE module can also suppress sending a scan request packet back to the BLE advertiser.

Bluetooth low energy module systems and methods

A dual-mode BLE device identifies idle intervals within Bluetooth BR/EDR traffic communications. The identified idle intervals are used by the dual-mode BLE device to concurrently perform various BLE activities. For example, advertising packet transmissions, advertising packet scanning, connection setup, and/or data packet communication may be concurrently performed within identified idle intervals within the Bluetooth BR/EDR traffic communications. Packet transmission timing, advertising interval, scan window, and/or packet size are determined based on the identified idle intervals within the Bluetooth BR/EDR traffic communications. A scan window is adjusted based on timing of expected advertising transmissions and/or advertising interval(s) for saving power. BLE packets and Bluetooth BR/EDR packets may be detected in a single advertising channel. Maximal payload size is set based on the identified idle intervals within Bluetooth BR/EDR traffic communications. As a slave, the dual-mode BLE device updates connection parameters based on the identified idle intervals within Bluetooth BR/EDR traffic communications.
