An illustrative example elevator sill assembly includes a sill plate and at least one support arm secured to the sill plate. A mounting bracket is configured to be mounted to an elevator car. The support arm is supported on the mounting bracket to allow the support arm to pivot relative to the mounting bracket. At least one linear actuator has a moving portion that moves in a vertical direction to cause the at least one support arm to pivot relative to the mounting bracket to thereby cause the sill plate to pivot from a stored position to an actuated position.

Gap-reducing sill assembly for an elevator car

A method of detecting maintenance requirements of a system for conveying a car through a passageway is provided. The method comprising: detecting pressure data for at least one or more locations along a passageway using a pressure sensor; comparing the pressure data to benchmark pressure data for each of the one or more locations; determining a pressure data variance at a first location of the one or more locations in response to the pressure data and the benchmark pressure data; and identifying an identity of a car stop location door system located at the first location when the pressure data variance is greater than a selected tolerance.

An illustrative example elevator sill assembly includes a sill plate and at least one support arm secured to the sill plate. A mounting bracket is configured to be mounted to an elevator car. The support arm is supported on the mounting bracket to allow the support arm to pivot relative to the mounting bracket. At least one actuator arm has a portion configured to be contacted by a door of the elevator car to cause movement of the actuator arm relative to the mounting bracket as the door moves into an open position. The movement of the actuator arm causes the support arm to pivot relative to the mounting bracket to thereby cause the sill plate to pivot from a stored position to an actuated position.

A selectively operable magnetic braking system having a safety brake adapted to arrest movement when moved from a non-braking state into a braking state, a magnetic brake pad configured to move between an engaging position and a non-engaging position, the magnetic brake pad, when in the engaging position, moving an engaging mechanism and thereby the safety brake from the non-braking state into the braking state, and an electromagnetic actuator configured to move the magnetic brake pad from the non-engaging position to an engaging position.
