A method for detecting a channel bandwidth for a signal, comprises the steps of: determining a differential operator between carriers of the signal; determining a signal power for the signal; and detecting the channel bandwidth as a function of the determined differential operator and the determined signal power, wherein the signal is processed as a function of the detected channel bandwidth.

A method and system for pseudorandom noise ('PN') phase detection in digital terrestrial multimedia broadcast ('DTMB') receivers. This method selects a detection range of symbols from a frame of the received signal; applies FFT to the PN portion of each of the symbols in the detection range to generate H(k); applies phase rotation to H(k) to obtain phase rotatedfor the PN portion of the symbols in the detection range; applies differential operations toto generate H; sums the Hto generated H; calculates a value Q as a function of H; and determines the PN phase offset as a function of Q and a predefined threshold.

Methods and systems for optimal PN phase detection in DTMB receivers

A method for demapping a multicarrier signal into soft bits by a receiver, comprises the steps of: calculating signal to noise ratio ('SNR') adjustment factors ('A[segidx]') for segments of the signal, wherein each of the segments has a predefined number of subcarriers of the signal; generating an adjusted SNR (&#x201c;SNR[segidx]&#x201d;) as a function of an average SNR over the subcarriers of the signal and of the calculated SNR adjustment factors; and determining the soft bits for the signal as a function of the signal, a channel estimation for the signal, and the adjusted SNR, wherein the receiver decodes the determined soft bits.

Methods and systems for demapping a multi-carrier signal

Methods for channel estimation for OFDM schemes are provided to combat multipath fading. Scattered pilot symbols are adaptively tracked by applying a weighted summation function over the received symbols to get a 'snapshot' of the pilot symbols. Channel impulse response and frequency response can then be applied to the snapshot for channel estimation. The channel estimation is then used for interpolating one or more data symbols. Furthermore, the path information of the channel impulse response can help to optimize the OFDM window position.

Methods and apparatuses for channel estimation of OFDM systems to combat multipath fading

A communications system includes a carrier recovery module that determines a carrier frequency offset of an input signal. A rotator module rotates the input signal to minimize the carrier frequency offset and generates a compensated signal. A correlator module correlates the compensated signal with a unique word to obtain a timing correction. An equalizer module equalizes the compensated signal based on the timing correction and generates an equalized signal. The carrier recovery module includes a burst detector module that detects a burst in response to a preamble of the input signal and an average detector to set a gain of a programmable gain amplifier (PGA). The average detector is disabled during burst search by the burst detector module and enabled at a beginning of each burst, outputs burst data to a digital signal processor when the average detector is enabled, and does not output the burst data to the digital signal processor when the average detector is disabled.

Method and system for equalizing received signals in communications systems

A wireless communication system comprises a sampling module that samples a first portion and a second portion of a channel using a sampling time. A correlator module selectively correlates the first portion and the second portion, generates correlation samples, and calculates an offset based on the correlation samples. A timing module selectively adjusts the sampling time based on the offset.
