A system for enriching target cells in a sample is disclosed. The system comprises a microfluidic chip comprising a sample inlet, a sample outlet, a waste outlet and a microfluidic channel, the sample inlet being coupled to an upstream end of the microfluidic channel and the sample outlet and the waste outlet being coupled to a downstream end of the microfluidic channel, the microfluidic chip being configured such that target cells are directed to the sample outlet and non-target cells are directed to the waste outlet; a sample input pump configured to introduce the sample into the sample inlet of the microfluidic chip; an output flow rate detector configured to measure a flow rate at the sample outlet and/or the waste outlet of the microfluidic chip; a sample collection switching valve having a configuration switchable between a first configuration in which the sample output of the microfluidic chip is coupled to a sample output container and a second configuration in which the sample output of the microfluidic chip is coupled to a waste output container; and a controller configured to control the configuration of the sample collection switching valve using the flow rate measured by the output flow rate detector.

Systems and methods for enriching target cells in a sample

Multi-stage target cell enrichment using a microfluidic device

A system for intra-operative blood salvage autotransfusion is provided. The system comprises at least one inlet configured to receive whole blood of a patient; at least one curvilinear microchannel in fluid flow connection with the at least one inlet, the at least one curvilinear microchannel being adapted to isolate circulating tumor cells in the whole blood, based on cell size, along at least one portion of a cross-section of the at least one curvilinear microchannel; and at least two outlets in fluid flow connection with the at least one curvilinear microchannel, at least one outlet of the at least two outlets being configured to flow the circulating tumor cells isolated from the whole blood, and at least one other outlet of the at least two outlets being configured to flow at least a portion of a remainder of the whole blood, cleansed of the isolated circulating tumor cells, for return to the patient.

System and method for inertial focusing microfiltration for intra-operative blood salvage autotransfusion

A microfluidic device is disclosed. The device comprises at least one inlet for receiving circulating tumor cells and other cells in a sample; at least one curvilinear and/or spiral channel through which the sample is caused to undergo partial or complete Dean cycles to isolate the circulating tumor cells from the other cells; and at least one outlet configured to communicate with the channel for providing the isolated circulating tumor cells. The channel is configured to provide a predetermined Force ratio based on a desired threshold cell size of the circulating tumor cells. A corresponding method of manufacturing of the device, and a related diagnostic system are also disclosed.

Microfluidics sorter for cell detection and isolation

A micro-fluidic device includes at least one inlet and a curvilinear microchannel having a trapezoidal cross section defined by a radially inner side, a radially outer side, a bottom side, and a top side, the cross section having a) the radially inner side and the radially outer side unequal in height, or b) the radially inner side equal in height to the radially outer side, and wherein the top side has at least two continuous straight sections, each unequal in width to the bottom side.
