An integrated circuit has a controllable switching element, the load path of which is arranged between an output of the integrated circuit and a supply potential. A test unit is connected to the connections of the switching element in order to carry out tests. A control unit is connected to the test unit via at least one control line. The sequence of tests is carried out dependent on signals on the control line(s). A memory is connected to the control unit the content and the type of which determines the time of the tests. The memory is connected to an input of the integrated circuit in order to enter the content.

Integrated circuit for switching loads, circuit arrangement comprising an integrated circuit and a connected load, and method for operating such a circuit arrangement

A method identifies a short-line fault or line interruption in a circuit configuration having a series circuit of inductive load and controllable switching element. The series circuit is connected between high and low potentials of a supply voltage source. A connecting point between load and switching element is connected through at least one zener element to the high or low potential of the voltage source or the control connection of the switching element so that upon interruption of current flow through the load due to switching off the switching element, magnetic energy stored in the load can be reduced by a zener element becoming conductive. After switching off the switching element, the voltage at the connecting point is ascertained and a voltage pulse duration is compared with a first prescribed duration. If the duration is shorter than the first prescribed duration, a line interruption or a short is inferred.

Method for identifying a short-line fault or a line interruption for a switched inductive load

A method for detecting the state of a load device which can be connected to a switching connection, wherein the switching connection can be coupled to, and decoupled from, a predefined switching potential. A voltage drop across the switching connection is used as a basis for detecting whether the load device is connected to the switching connection, the load device is not connected to the switching connection or there is a short circuit between the switching connection and a first or a second switching potential. An additional current source is connected to the switching connection at the same time as the switching connection is decoupled from the predefined switching potential.

Method and circuit arrangement for detecting the state of a load device which can be connected to a switching connection

A circuit for controlling an inductive load, e.g. of a fuel injection valve, includes supply terminals for supplying a voltage, output terminals for connecting the load, and a detection device which is connected to at least one of the output terminals and is used for detecting the point in time at which the operation of the load is discontinued and/or detecting at least one fault case during a non-operational phase of the load. In order to render the detection process more reliable while using less circuitry, the detection device encompasses a current mirror with a first current source and a second current source. The current first is connected to one of the two output terminals during a detection phase. The current supplied by the second current source is evaluated as a signal of the detected result.

Circuit arrangement for controlling an inductive load

A circuit includes a switching unit, a switching element, and a control unit. The control unit provides at least one supply signal depending on a switching position of the switching element. An advance signal and the supply signal(s) of the control unit are assigned to the switching unit on the input side. The switching unit supplies and controls predetermined components of the switching unit, which are configured to control the switching element in accordance with the advance signal in such a way that the components activate the switching element. The switching unit is also configured to detect the supply signal(s) present once the switching element has been activated and in response thereto to switch to supplying the predetermined components by way of the supply signal(s).

Circuit arrangement

A driver chip for driving an inductive load and a module having a driver chip are provided. The driver chip contains a first transistor for coupling a first potential to a first output and a second transistor for coupling a second potential to the first output. A first protection circuit reduces an increased voltage between a control terminal and a load junction terminal of the first transistor. The driver chip has a first state in which the second transistor is turned off and the first transistor can switch a passive inductive load connected to the output. In a second state, the first transistor and the second transistor can switch an external power transistor connected to the first output. A second output is connected to a load junction terminal of the external power transistor. A second protection circuit reduces an increased voltage between the first and second outputs.

An integrated circuit has a control circuit () for a power field-effect transistor (), wherein the integrated circuit has a first input () for receiving a control signal (CE) and an output to switch the field-effect transistor () on or off. The control circuit further has a driver circuit for providing a voltage level at the output in response of the control signal. A second input is provided for receiving a configuration signal, the configuration signal for configuring the voltage level being provided by the driver circuit in response to the control signal.

A first voltage, which is dropped out onto a pull-down resistor that is coupled to a first power circuit breaker, is compared to an adjustable first reference voltage in order to determine a first comparative value. A second voltage, which is dropped out onto the pull-up resistor that is coupled to the second power circuit breaker, is compared to an adjustable second reference voltage in order to determine a second comparative value. Determination then occurs according to the first comparative value and second comparative value as to whether the first output pin of the first power circuit breaker and the second output switch of the second power circuit breaker are contacted to each other. The first output pin and second output pin are connected to one another by way of a node outside the power circuit breaker.

A method and a circuit are provided for the continuous detection of a line break in a full bridge controlling an inductive load. When the full bridge is switched off or on, a pre-determinable switching device of the circuit is switched first, and then a potential applied to a connection between the switching device and the load is tapped. The tapped potential is then compared with the ground potential when the switching device is connected to the supply potential, or with the supply potential when the switching device is connected to the ground potential. A line break is then determined when the two compared potentials are not different in the free running state thereof.

Method and circuit arrangement for detecting a wire break

A circuit configuration providing a diagnostic signal for a power switching device which switches a load has a test circuit, a filter device, a validation device, and a coding device. The test circuit tests the power switching device and generates error symptoms for characterizing error types of different priorities. The filter device, depending on an activation signal activating the power switching device, provides a validity signal for the generated error symptoms. The validity signal specifies the validity of the corresponding error symptom in each case. The validation device validates a generated error symptom depending on the associated validity signal in each case and validates the validated activation signal and from this generates a group of is states and the associated complementary states. The coding device codes the states and complementary states depending on the priorities of the error types assigned to the states and complementary states. The diagnostic signal is formed from the coded states and complementary states.
