A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines comprises a nozzle body (1) and a nozzle needle (5) guided therein. The nozzle body (1) terminates in a nozzle cap (3) in which ejection bores (4) are provided and which forms at the inside a conical valve seat (6) against which the nozzle needle (5) is pressed. The nozzle needle (5) lifts under the pressure of the fuel supplied in a first lifting phase against the force of a spring (8) off the valve seat (6) and bears on a stop (19). This stop (19) is limitedly displaceable in a second lifting phase against the force of a further spring (9). To reduce the hydrocarbon emissions in the exhaust gases of the internal combustion engine and diminish ignition noise, the generated surface (M) of the imaginary cylinder formed in extension of the ejection bore (4) between the inner edge (R) thereof and the surface of the nozzle needle (5) lifted off the valve seat in the first lifting phase is made smaller than the cross-section of the ejection bore (4).

Fuel injection nozzle for combustion engines

A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines comprises a nozzle needle being supported in a casing and adapted for obturating the orifices of the nozzle under spring pressure and for opening them under fuel pressure. An abutment which is adjustable in that it reduces the length of the opening stroke of the injection needle when the internal combustion engine operates in a speed range from idling speed to at most a medium speed and under a small load, can be actuated by means of a spring-biased piston urged upon by a pressure medium. In order to guarantee a continuous adjustability of the abutment, the pressure medium acting upon the piston is fed via a pressure-regulating valve, and a control unit, influenced at least by the engine speed and load prevailing at any given time, is provided for controlling this pressure-regulating valve. The piston is arranged in a cylinder having an axis which intersects the axis of the nozzle needle at a first angle slightly deviating from 90.degree.. The abutment is devised as a flattened part of the piston skirt extending in a plane which intersects a plane normal relative to the piston axis at an angle having the same size as the first angle, but opening in a direction opposite to that in which the first angle opens.

Fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines

A fuel injection unit for each cylinder of a diesel engine includes a housing which accommodates a piston pump and an injection nozzle. The piston pump includes a cylinder liner in which a piston runs and controls a flow passage radially extending in the cylinder liner. The flow passage communicates with a supply space which is provided between the housing and the cylinder liner and is divided in vicinity of the flow passage by a baffle sleeve. The so formed two chambers are connected to separate inlet and outlet lines, i.e. that one chamber is connected to the inlet line while the other chamber communicates with the outlet line.

Fuel injection unit for a diesel engine cylinder

Apparatus for controlling the quantity of fuel injected per shot or the beginning of fuel injection in a diesel engine comprises a control rod, which is adjustable by a stepping motor through the intermediary of a resiliently yieldable coupling. The control rod acts to control the injection pump or pumps. In order to provide a structurally simple apparatus which comprises a low-power stepping motor and to eliminate backlash between the cooperating elements of the apparatus, the shaft of the stepping motor carries a camwheel, which is indirectly engaged by the control rod, which is biased by a spring. The resiliently yieldable coupling can be coaxial with the camwheel and adapted to rotate as far as to stop only in one sense of rotation whereas the coupling is rigidly connected to the camwheel for a movement in the other sense of rotation. Alternatively, the coupling can consist of two coupling levers, which are adapted to be pivotally moved apart about a common axis from a position of rest, which is defined by a stop. One of said two coupling levers engages the cam of the camwheel, which is nonrotatably connected to the shaft of the stepping motor. The other of said coupling levers engages an abutment carried by the control rod.

Apparatus for automatically controlling the injection of fuel in diesel

An inlet valve, an outlet valve and a pump cam are formed on a camshaft. The pump cam is disposed between and axially spaced from the inlet and outlet valve cams. An inlet valve tappet and an outlet valve tappet have end faces engaging said inlet and outlet valve cams, respectively. A cam follower is operable by the pump cam to control a fuel injection pump. A plane which is normal to the axis of said camshaft and defines the axial extent of said pump cam toward one of said tappets intersects said end face of said one tappet to define a line of intersection, whereby said pump has an overlapping portion, which axially overlaps said one tappet, and the axial projection of the periphery of said overlapping portion lies entirely within an envelope which is generated by said line of intersection around said pump cam as said camshaft is rotated.
