A node in a wireless system using transmit/receive slots for a communication among the nodes in the wireless system comprises a reception block configured to receive from a transmitting node in the wireless system a synchronization signal, and to derive from the synchronization signal a time offset and a frequency offset between the clock generators in the node and in the transmitting node. Further, a slot synchronization block is provided including the clock generator which is updated based on the derived time offset and the derived frequency offset. Further, a transmission block is provided for transmitting data. The slot synchronization block sets a slot start of a slot based on the derived time offset and sets a slot of a subsequent slot based on the derived frequency offset.

Radio channel estimators are provided. In an exemplary embodiment, a radio channel estimator is provided for estimating a first radio channel to obtain a first estimate, the first radio channel being comprised in a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radio channel extending between at least a first transmit antenna and a second transmit antenna and a receive antenna, the first radio channel extending between the first transmit antenna and the receive antenna. The estimator comprises a means for receiving a reference symbol transmitted by the second transmit antenna and a means for estimating a second radio channel based on the reference symbol, the second radio channel extending between the second transmit antenna and the receive antenna. The estimator further comprises a means for processing the estimate of the second radio channel based on a spatial property of the MIMO radio channel to obtain the first estimate.

An apparatus for estimating a channel from a transmitting point to a receiving point in an environment, in which at least two transmitting points spaced apart from each other are present, the transmitting point having associated therewith a pilot sequence, wherein the pilot sequences are different from each other, having a provider for providing an input signal, the input signal including a superposition of signals from the transmitting points, a multiplier for providing a number of copies of the input signal, the number of copies being equal to the number of transmitting points, for each copy of the input signal, a transformer for transforming the copy or a signal derived from the copy to obtain a transformed signal, the transformer being operative to apply a transform algorithm which is based on a Fourier transform, and for each transformed signal, an extractor extracting a portion of the transformed signal.

An apparatus for estimating a plurality of channels from a plurality of distinct transmitting points, wherein an input signal includes a super position of signals based on a first pilot sequence transmittable from a first transmitting point and on a second pilot sequence transmittable from a second transmitting point, the first pilot sequence and the second pilot sequence having a phase shift to each other, comprises a transformer, which is operative to translate phase shifts between the first and the second pilot sequence into a delay, so that a first group of a set of discrete values of the transformed signal includes channel information of a first channel and that a second group of a set of discrete values includes channel information of a second channel, a selector for selecting the first group from the set of discrete values and for selecting the second group from the set of discrete values to obtain selected groups, and means for determining channel information for the plurality of channels based on the selected groups. The selection of groups at the output of the transformer for obtaining channel information for the channel allows the construction of a simplified receiver.
