Disclosed is an automotive road construction machine, particularly a recycler or a cold stripping machine, comprising an engine frame that is supported by a chassis, a working roller which is stationarily or pivotally mounted on the engine frame and is used for machining a ground surface or road surface. The chassis is provided with wheels or tracked running gears which are connected to the engine frame via lifting column and are vertically adjustable relative to the engine frame. Each individually vertically adjustable lifting column is equipped with a device for measuring the actual vertical state of the lifting column.

A tool holder including a tool box with a tool seat in a holding projection for receiving a tool in such a manner that it can be replaced. The tool seat is configured as a bore and has a tool insertion opening. The tool holder has a fastening side with a fastening projection and, facing away from said fastening side, an exterior, and during use of the tool centrifugal forces are effective in the direction from the fastening side to the exterior. This invention ensures the free rotatability of a tool inserted in the tool holder even if overburden material enters the tool seat. For this purpose, the holding projection has an opening penetrating the inner wall of the tool seat and creating a spatial connection to the exterior, and the opening opens the tool seat towards the exterior.

A control and switchover system is provided for controlling milling depth and/or slope of a milling drum of a road construction machine during a milling operation to create a milled surface. The system controls the milling depth and/or slope at least in part on a measurement made with a first sensor. Without interrupting the milling operation the system switches over the control of the milling depth and/or slope to control based at least in part on a measurement made with a second sensor.

A road construction machine includes a machine frame, a working drum and a plurality of ground engaging supports. A plurality of lifting columns are connected between the machine frame and the ground engaging supports. Each of the lifting columns include two telescoping hollow cylinders. A plurality of lifting position measuring devices are provided, each measuring device being coupled with elements of one of the lifting columns, which elements are capable of being displaced relative to one another in accordance with the lifting position of the lifting column in such a manner that a path signal pertaining to a lifting position of the lifting column is continuously detectable by the measuring device. A controller is operably connected to the lifting position measuring devices to receive the path signals and to regulate the lifting positions of the lifting columns in response to the path signals.

A fixing device for a shank chisel including a base part to which a chisel holder is attached in a manner that enables it to be exchanged. The chisel holder has a chisel location for the shank chisel and has a supporting face on which the shank chisel can be supported. The chisel holder is coupled to the base part by a pivot bearing, and the chisel holder rests against a mating face of the base part. This invention provides a stress-optimized design for the above-mentioned arrangement. Thus, according to this invention, when the chisel holder is mounted, a contact area formed between the contact face and the mating face is located between a rotation axis or a rotation path of the pivot bearing and the supporting face.
