In a method for producing liquid pig iron (,) and a sponge metal from charging substances comprising iron ore (,) respectively metal ore, the charging substances are directly reduced to sponge iron in at least one first reduction zone (,) the sponge iron is melted in a melt-down gasifying zone (,) under the supply of carbon carriers (,) and oxygen-containing gas and a CO&mdash; and H,-containing reducing gas is produced which is fed to the first reduction zone (,), is reacted there and withdrawn as a top gas, wherein the withdrawn top gas after a scrubbing operation is subjected to CO,elimination and optionally to heating and is supplied to at least one further reduction zone (,) for the direct reduction of metal ore, in particular of iron ore (,), as a reducing gas that is at least largely free from CO,and after reaction with the metal ore (,) is withdrawn as an export gas and purified in a scrubber. In order to exploit the sludges incurring in the scrubbers while expending as little energy as possible, the sludges obtained in the scrubbing of the top gas from the first reduction zone (,) are dewatered and charged into the melter gasifier (,), whereas the sludges obtained in the scrubbing of the export gas of the further reduction zone (,) are dewatered and fed into the first direct reduction zone (,).

Method of processing iron-containing mettalurgical residual substances

In a process for producing an iron melt, iron ore is reduced to sponge iron in a direct reduction zone. The sponge iron is melted in a meltdown gasifying zone while supplying carbon-containing material under gasification of the carbon-containing material to reducing gas and under formation of a slag. The reducing gas is injected into the direct reduction zone, is reacted there and is drawn off as a top gas. The reducing gas and/or the top gas is subjected to gas scrubbing and the sludges separated during scrubbing are admixed with binder and coal dust and subsequently are agglomerated. In order to be able to supply back to the direct reduction process in large amounts sludges incurring in the direct reduction of iron ore without disturbing the process course of the direct reduction in any way, the sludges separated during scrubbing are dehydrated to a residual moisture content prior to being further treated, coal dust and, as a binder, quick lime are then admixed to the sludges, the sludges subsequently are granulated and the granulate thus formed is supplied to the meltdown gasifying zone while increasing the basicity of the slag to a maximum of 1.25.

Process for producing an iron melt

In the manufacture of cold-moulded briquettes from iron-containing waste metallurgical material mixed with a binder, in order to obtain high-strength briquettes and almost complete reducibility, magnetite waste metallurgical material such as scale (1) is mixed with haematite fine material (5) to form a layer (10) of haematite line materials (5) enveloping the individual magnetite particles (9), after which the binder is added to the mixture (FIG. 1).

Method of producing cold-moulded iron-containing briquettes

In order to utilise wastes or residues containing iron in the oxide form and/or iron in the metallic form and/or containing carbon (38,25,34), a process is used with which molten pig iron (16) or steel preliminary products can be produced, iron ore (4) being reduced to sponge iron in a direct reduction zone (2), the sponge iron being melted in a melting-gasification zone (15) with the supply of carbon-containing material (29) with gasification of the carbon-containing material (29) to reducing gas, and the reducing gas is fed into the direct reduction zone (2), reacted there and drawn off as top gas. In order to be able to utilise the wastes or residues completely and in an energy-saving manner, the wastes or residues (38, 25, 34) are collected separately in three groups depending on their chemical composition, namely a first group contains chiefly substances containing iron in the oxide form (38), a second group chiefly substances containing iron in the metallic form (25) and a third group chiefly carbon-containing substances (34), and the first group is charged into the direct reduction zone (2) and the second group and the third group are charged directly into the melting-gasification zone (15).
