A cooled converter trunnion ring, which is arranged at a distance from the converter, encompasses the converter and is connected to a coolant supply station. In order to achieve good accessibility of the trunnion ring by simple measures and to ensure reliable cooling of the loaded trunnion ring areas with low energy expenditure, a pipe coil, which runs in a largely meandering fashion and through which a liquid coolant flows, is provided on the inner surface of the inner side member substantially facing the converter of the steel mantle of the converter trunnion ring.

A torque support for drives riding on trunnions, in particular for converter tilt drives, including a gear housing mounted on the trunnion which is rotatable about an axis of rotation, a drive motor attached by a flange or bolting to a step-down gearing which engages, via pinion, with a larger gear wheel fixed for rotation on the trunnion. The torque support includes a pair of guide rods located symmetrically to the axis of rotation of the trunnion, each guide rod includes a first and second oppositely positioned part, the first and second rod part have an upper and lower end and a respective free end opposite thereto; the upper ends are pivotally mounted on the gear housing and the lower ends are connected to each other via either a compression-tension bar or torsion shaft, upon which the lower ends are pivotally mounted. A spring element which connects the free ends of the first and second guide rod parts in spaced relation from the mounts acts in tension and compression and includes springs and a mechanism for predeterminately pre-stressing the springs.

A tiltable metallurgical vessel is rotatable about pivot pins which are supported in bearings. At least one of the pivot pins is hollow so that a material carrying conduit can pass through the pivot pin desired materials from a remote source to a desired operational site of the furnace. In addition, other material carrying conduits are provided to the operational sites of the furnace. These latter conduits are connected, at one end, to stationary tapping points and, at the other end, to the operational sites of the vessel. The conduits are guided around (by being coiled by at least one full turn) an enlarged cylindrical portion of the hollow pivot pins. In one embodiment of the invention, the enlarged cylindrical portion of the hollow pins are winding drums which are themselves constructed of symmetrical cylinder halves. In this manner, the winding drum can be easily retrofitted onto a preexisting vessel. In another aspect of the invention, a tensioning device is provided for the elimination of slack of the flexible conduits. The tensioning device, in the preferred embodiment, is in the form of a weighted guide roller.

Tiltable metallurgical converter having material carrying lines

A vehicle for transporting heavy loads on parallel tracks is disclosed. Two of the wheels of the vehicle are fixedly mounted to the vehicle frame, while the remaining wheels are mounted so that they can vertically adjust to deviations in the height of the rail track. In this manner, heavy loads can be transported on the rail tracks without any particular wheel becoming overloaded. In the preferred embodiment, the adjustable wheels are supported by bell crank levers which are themselves connected to one another by a parallelogram linkage arrangement.

Force equalizing mechanism for the wheels of heavy load-carrying rail

A truck is provided for transporting and lifting heavy metallurgical vessels from one place to another. The truck combines two functions ordinarily provided by two different trucks, in that the truck of the invention lifts and/or removes the vessel from its tilting mount for relining and when replacing it on the mount also refits the bottom plate and cover onto the vessel, the latter function usually being carried out by a separate truck. The arrangement includes a separate bottom plate carrying device configured to be positioned on the truck. The carrying device is positioned to be non-displaceable on the lifting mechanism and to be, when thus placed, subject to the centering and lifting mechanisms of the truck of the invention.

Transport lift truck for metallurgical vessels, particularly steel mill

A support is provided for a metallurgical vessel, in which paired tie rods are provided superimposed upon each other to absorb the stress resulting from thermal expansion and contraction in the support. By superimposing pairs of the tie rods upon each other and pre-stressing them, a substantial capacity is provided for absorbing built-up stresses in the support while requiring relatively less space for accommodating the tie rods. The paired compression heads and tie rods are positioned concentric to each other on the same axis.

Support for a metallurgical vessel

The invention refers to a transport exchange truck for changing and alternating metallurgic vessels, particularly for steel mill converters. The truck is provided with an interior frame part arranged to rotate in the center of the exterior carriage frame with at least one piston--supportable on the mill floor--of a piston-cylinder unit to raise the exterior frame part carrying the undercarriages. The exterior frame part supports a lift table which can be raised or lowered by means of one or several piston-cylinder units. Each piston rod is connected with the lift table through at least one ball-and-socket joint whose joint housing is provided with articulated traction elements.

Metallurgical vessel handling vehicle

A plural nozzle arrangement is provided for introducing reactants, additives and so forth to steel manufacturing furnaces, in which a unitary 'plug-in' type structure is provided with a plurality of self-contained blast pipes. The arrangement of the invention also provides means for introducing separately additives, reactants or shielding gases around the periphery of the blast pipes as a secondary means of introduction while still contained on the unitary structure. The unitary structure of the invention is so configured that exposure of the periphery of the individual blast pipes to the secondary additives may be varied for different applications.

Steel furnace nozzle arrangement

The invention refers to an apparatus for locking a converter tilting gear during a blasting operation, which apparatus is provided with a supplementary gear arrangement to facilitate counterrotation of pinions arranged in pairs versus the pivot pin gear wheel, so that the pinions may be locked and loosened by means of arresting brakes. The arrangement is such that the gear trains for the individual drive pinions can pivot in relation to the position of the pivot pin gear wheel in synchronized fashion to accommodate play between the cooperating gear teeth.

Apparatus for locking a converter tilting gear during a blasting

A metallurgical tilting vat, such as a steel mill converter, which, by means of vat extensions or projections, rests on a surrounding tilting mechanism, so that it can be tilted 360.degree., and where radial and axial heat expansion and contractions are accommodated. The tilting mechanism is equipped with dynamic test cells for weighing the vat and/or vat contents. This type of metallurgical tilting vat equipped with weighing devices serves to ascertain the vat contents in order to observe the steel production process based on differing weights of the vat contents, and, in turn, to regulate the decarbonization process based on the weight data and/or data graphs thus obtained.

The invention covers a protective nozzle for metallurgic vessels, particularly for steel mill converters which are provided with a frontal ring, connected to the vessel shell and reinforcing the nozzle for attachment of the nozzle ring, whereby the latter consists of interchangeable ring segments; also provided is forced cooling.
