A method of creating an access to a waveguide arrangement in order to couple measuring signals into and/or out of the waveguide arrangement includes providing a cover for covering an opening in a waveguide wall of the waveguide arrangement at a location suitable as a measuring signal access, removing the cover, and replacing the cover with another cover equipped with a coupling device.

Method of creating a measuring signal access to a waveguide arrangement

A phase shifter suitable for operation at very high high-frequency power is composed of a waveguide in which ferromagnetic material is distributed along at least one plane extending in the direction of wave propagation. The ferromagnetic material is exposed to a static magnetic field oriented parallel to the plane. The ferromagnetic material is shaped so that it forms a plurality of three-dimensional regions which extend in the direction of the applied static magnetic field from one waveguide wall to the opposite waveguide wall. These regions may be provided by a plurality of ferromagnetic rods, preferably housed in one or more dielectric containers to direct a flow of coolant fluid, or by a ferromagnetic body having a plurality of bores. Such bores also preferably direct a flow of coolant fluid.

Microwave phase shifter

A junction circulator suitable for high power, high-frequency use has a microwave junction zone which is penetrated by a static magnetic field. Disposed in the microwave junction zone is a ferromagnetic resonator composed of different dielectric media, at least one of which has ferromagnetic characteristics. The interfaces between the various dielectric media form three-dimensional bodies which extend over the entire height of the junction zone and which have cross sections that do not change in the direction of the static magnetic field. These interfaces may be provided by parallel ferrite rods, or a ferrite body with parallel bores.

A waveguide junction circulator for a high power application at a high operating frequency. The circulator includes a plurality of connecting waveguides, each of which has a standard height dimension corresponding to the operating frequency; a resonance cavity; a plurality of spaced and cooled, superposed metal plates covered with ferrite discs disposed in the cavity; a magnet disposed outside the cavity for generating a magnetic field oriented perpendicular to the ferrite discs and penetrating the cavity; and a plurality of junction arms each having one end communicating with the cavity and another end forming a connection with a respective one of the plurality of connecting waveguides. The circulator has a height dimension in its region penetrated by the magnetic field that is reduced by at least 20% compared to the standard height dimension of the connecting waveguides. Each connection presents a transition from the connecting waveguide to the junction arm that has a sudden change in cross section from the reduced height of the circulator to the standard height of the connecting waveguide. Reactance elements are provided in the junction arms to form multi-section filters.

High-frequency, high-power waveguide junction circulator

A four-port network which is connected to a microwave antenna feed horn for separating four signal paths associated, in pairs, with two polarizations and two frequency bands, and with the network also being utilized for the derivation of antenna tracking signals according to the monopulse principle. A conductor is disposed along the longitudinal axis of the waveguide connecting the antenna feed horn with the four-port network, with this conductor extending, on the one hand, to the region of the antenna feed horn throat and, on the other hand, into the four-port network so as to couple in signals of a higher order mode for the derivation of the antenna deviation signals.

A microwave transmission system for multipath propagation operating according to the angle diversity principle and comprising a transmitting and receiving device including a reflector antenna and a waveguide exciter horn wherein a fundamental mode and modes of a higher order can propagate, a mode coupler following the exciter horn for separating the energy components of the main mode and the higher order modes, and receiving and combining devices for obtaining the best signal from the received energy components of the various modes. The exciter horn is dimensioned so that at least two independent modes of a higher order or combinations thereof having the same polarization as the main mode can be excited in the waveguide exciter horn in addition to the main mode. In order to enlarge the radiation gain of the antenna, the waveguide exciter horn is designed, in its basic structure as well as by means of additional structural elements, such as pairs of apertures, corrugated structures, steps and bends, such that the aperture angle (.alpha.) of the radiation lobe of the main mode is matched to the aperture angle (.beta.) of the radiation lobes of the higher modes or vice versa in the plane of the electrical field as well as in the plane of the magnetic field. The mode coupler feeds more than two mutually independent received signals from the received energy components of the different modes separately to the receiving and combining devices, and includes a transmitting port which excites one mode whose preferred field direction is orthogonal to the preferred field direction of the received main mode.

A four-port network for separating signals comprised of two doubly polarized frequency bands for an antenna feeder system in directional or satellite radio operation, wherein a first polarization converter for converting linear polarization to circular polarization, and vice versa, is designed for the lowest inherent ellipticity in the lower frequency band and is connected ahead of a symmetric polarization filter for the lower frequency band, and a second polarization converter which compensates the remaining ellipticity in the upper frequency band is connected between the symmetrical polarization filter and a further polarization filter for the upper frequency band. The second polarization converter for compensating the remaining ellipticity in the upper frequency band includes two different types of wavecoupling means with the first wavecoupling means reducing the frequency dependence of the remaining ellipticity but simultaneously increasing the amount of the remaining ellipticity and the other wavecoupling means having the resulting effect that the amount of the remaining ellipticity and additionally its frequency dependence are reduced to a minimum.
