A process for producing paper bags with handles glued to the insides of the facing opening edges, includes perforating a paper web with transverse perforation lines spaced at distances corresponding to the section lengths necessary to produce the bags. At a given distance from the transverse perforation lines the handles are glued in adjacent pairs to the web in such a way that the outer handle parts project beyond the transverse perforation lines. The web is joined together into a tubular web by folding over its side edges, such that the handles face each other. The overlapping side edges that have been folded together are glued to form a seam. The sections are detached along the transverse perforation lines and each section is provided with a bottom portion at the end opposite the handles. Adhesive coatings are applied to the web in a transverse direction between arms of the handle and Z-shaped folds are made in the adhesive area and folded onto the adhesive, using pressure, to prevent the upper edge of the bag from tearing.

Process for producing paper bags with handles

An apparatus for forming stacks from consecutively fed, flat workpieces, preferably bags, comprises a ram, which is movable up and down and serves to force the workpieces from a plane of conveyance onto a stacking plate or onto a stack formed on said stacking plate. The stacking plate is adapted to be lifted and to be lowered to an extent depending on the increasing height of the stack. In order to ensure that the ram will exert an approximately constant force on each workpiece as it is stacked, the stacking plate is adapted to be lowered against the action of a force exerted by a brake.

Apparatus for forming stacks from consecutively conveyed, flat workpieces

An apparatus for feeding a preferably multi-ply web of synthetic thermoplastics comprises a pair of feed rolls, which define a feeding nip and each of which is formed with annular grooves, and two scraping rakes, which are secured in the frame and have tines extending through the annular grooves, wherein at least one of said rakes is movably mounted and arranged to actuate a switch for stopping the drive for the rolls when the scraping rake is moved out of its normal position by the web because it is bulged. It is intended so to improve such an apparatus that the switch will be operated even by relatively small bulges formed in the web. That object is accomplished in that each scraping rake is guided to be movable in the direction of travel of the web. A scraping rake for actuating the switch can be moved by a much weaker force if the rake is displaced in the direction of travel of the web rather than being pivotally moved. The apparatus in accordance with the invention is capable of a much more sensitive response to a bulging of the web than known apparatuses.

A punching apparatus, preferably for punching intermittently moving webs of synthetic thermoplastics, comprises top and bottom tools, which are mounted in a machine frame and at least one of which is connected to a drive for moving said one tool up and down. The tools for making the punching cut consist of a knife plate or a knife ring and a backing plate or a backing ring and at the end of the punching cut strike against each other or almost contact each other.

A stack of bags is provided, which have been made from rectangular sections of synthetic thermoplastic film. The sections have been folded onto themselves about bottom fold lines and provided with side seam welds. Their open ends, the sections are also provided with centrally disposed, punched grip holes and with laterally disposed corner portions, which are defined by perforation lines and formed with aligned stacking or hanger holes. Only the rear wall of each bag is provided with perforation lines defining the two upper corner portions of the rear wall. The front wall of the bag is formed in its corner portions with apertures which are defined by cutouts, which are substantially congruent to and register with the perforation lines. A process of manufacturing such stack of bags and an apparatus for carrying out such process are also disclosed.

An arrangement for welding multi-ply staggered bags has two guiding elements for guiding a multi-ply material so that the inner ply is staggered with itself and one part of the inner ply is staggered on another part thereof, a heating aggregate which supplies hot air for welding, and a bending member arranged to bend the staggered parts of the inner ply so that they partially separate from one another and form a gap into which the hot air from the heating aggregate is supplied.
