A flame cutting machine control system has a housing to hold the control units with a front plate for the housing; the control units are attached to the front plate with the front plate being designed as a housing cover and the control units being insertable into the housing.

A system for guiding a tool according to a predetermined direction includes a detector head which photoelectrically scans a line of the pattern with the line varying in width at predetermined locations and with the output signals of the scanning photoreceptors being conductable to a switching device having an adjustable switching threshold so that when the scanning is in the area of the altered line width an auxiliary signal is formed in addition to the control signal for the coordinate motors.

An arrangement for cutting workpieces with a scanning device having a signalling photoresistor which detects markings, with an attached control device which contains a first timing element to which a switch for reducing the rate of speed is connected includes an OR-element connected between the first timing element and the switch with a further timing element connected by means of an AND-element to the input and output of the timing element with the input of the further timing element being connected to the output of the AND-element and the output of the further timing element being operationally connected to the input of the OR-element.

A pipe cutting and/or welding device has a chuck for rotating the pipe with the chuck jaws connected with an activating device provided with torque limiting means. The torque limiting means has an adjusting device for switching from a low torque value for the clamping of the pipe to a high torque value for releasing the pipe.

Retarding markings are provided alongside a linear pattern to be cut out by an automatic device guided by a photoelectric scanner. The markings are disposed a short distance ahead of the changes in direction of the pattern line, which is greater than the resultant decelerating path of the advance motors from the original faster advance speed to the resultant slower advance speed. A timing circuit initiates the change in advance speed after the retarding mark is detected and a second timing circuit changes the overhang of the line-scanning photocells from an initial greater magnitude to the lesser required magnitude correspond to the slower advance speed. Acceleration marks may also be provided after directional changes in the pattern to accelerate the advance speed back to the original advance speed after the changes in directions are accomplished. A third timing circuit is then provided to subsequently increase the advance speed and overhang of the photoelectric cells ahead of the axis of rotation of the scanning head back to their original magnitude.
