A workpiece support includes a workpiece support element and a suction device. A workpiece is mounted on a workpiece side of the workpiece support element during machining. Towards a remote lower side, the workpiece support element is permeable to a waste air flow loaded with machining-related emissions. The suction device includes a vacuum generator and a suction line. The vacuum generator is configured to generate the waste air flow flowing from the workpiece side to the lower side, to suck off the waste air flow into the suction line in a flow direction and to subsequently discharge the waste air flow via the suction line. The suction line has a suction opening having a flow cross section which can be passed by the waste air flow in the flow direction. An opening width of the flow cross section and/or a position of the suction opening can be variably adjusted.

Supporting machining workpieces

A laser machine for machining workpieces has a workpiece support that forms a support main plane and is permeable to air perpendicularly to the support main plane. Supply air is directed to an upper side of the workpiece support. Air that is contaminated due to machining is discharged as exhaust air from the upper side of the workpiece support through the workpiece support to the bottom side of the workpiece support. In order to generate a laminar supply air flow which is perpendicular to the upper side of the workpiece support, the flow cross section of the supply air channel is divided into partial cross sections by partial cross sectional walls.

A processing machine for workpiece processing has a sliding member which can be moved relative to a machine body along a travel channel from a first position into a second position and vice versa. The sliding member is connected to the machine body by at least one energy guiding chain that is at least partially disposed within the travel channel. The energy guiding chain has a plurality of chain members coupled in a flexible manner and the chain members have edge projections supported on shoulders on either side of the travel channel.
