An identification document () with a personalization region () for receiving biometric image information () is proposed. The personalization region () comprises a recording layer () for image information as well as a lens arrangement (). Viewing the biometric image information () is effected through the lens arrangement (). The biometric image information () holds basic information () consisting of a base image () and a derivative image () derived from the base image (). The derivative image () shows or emphasizes a constituent of the base image () that is essential for recognition. At a first viewing angle (α) the base image () is dominantly recognizable, at a second viewing angle (α) the derivative image (), so that in the perception of the image information combined from base image () and derivative image () a plastic overall impression arises.

A security document has a carrier element which has a surface with a principal plane and a personalization region. A personalization layer is applied to the surface, such that the surface of the carrier element in the personalization region is configured with a plurality of structure elements uniformly aligned with each other and raised with respect to the principal plane. Into a plastic card () of polycarbonate layers () there is laminated a security thread () by applying pressure and temperature, the security thread itself having a carrier foil () of polycarbonate and a coating () that is borne by the carrier foil and conveys holographic information. An easily manufacturable multilayer security element has an opaque functional layer that is arranged between two build-up layers of transmissive material. The opaque functional layer has at least one cutout. The layers are connected by lamination to form an areal body with planar surfaces. The cutout is filled up with transmissive material of the build-up layers. One build-up layer supports a feature carrier layer. A security feature, which is arranged at least partially below the cutout, is formed in the feature carrier layer and/or between the functional layer and the feature carrier layer. The cutout forms an inner window through which the security feature is recognizable.

This disclosure includes a method for manufacturing a portable data carrier, an inlay for a data carrier, and a data carrier. A data carrier body has a gap for a chip and a chip is incorporated into the gap. In a subsequent step a cover layer is laid on the data carrier body, and the data carrier body and the cover layer are laminated. After the incorporation of the chip and before the lamination, a stabilizing agent is applied into the gap of the core layer, which remains soft or flexible during the lamination and cures or is activated (e.g. by means of UV radiation) only after the lamination, in order for mechanical tensions to be avoided.

A multi-layer card-shaped data carrier has a marking layer containing a hidden marking, and a thermochromic cover layer arranged over the marking layer at least in the area of the hidden marking. The thermochromic cover layer is opaque below its change temperature, hides the marking, and is translucent or transparent above its change temperature, enabling viewing of the marking. The thermochromic cover layer is pervious to radiation outside the visible spectral range and the marking layer absorbs radiation energy outside the visible spectral range, so that the hidden marking can be incorporated into the marking layer through the thermochromic cover layer by laser radiation of a wavelength outside the visible spectral range.

The invention relates to a data carrier into which, by means of a laser beam, identifiers are introduced that are visible in the form of irreversible changes, caused by the laser beam, in the optical properties of the data carrier. According to the present invention, the data carrier comprises a laser-sensitive layer () that is opaque in the visible spectral range, and that is combined with a securing layer () that is metallized at least in a sub-area, the identifiers () being introduced by the laser beam simultaneously and in perfect register into the laser-sensitive layer () and the metallized sub-area () of the securing layer ().

The invention relates to a card (), such as a credit card or ID card, which has several layers laminated with each other, wherein between a first card layer () and a second card layer () there is embedded a security element () which has a plastic or lacquer layer () with a relief structure (). The relief structure has areas (&#x2033;) with different picture elements and produces a visible representation () and a hidden representation () which can be made visible with aids. The security element is adhesively bonded by adhesive layers () to the two card layers () between which it is embedded, the adhesives being chosen from the group which consists of physically drying adhesives and adhesives crosslinkable by heat, preferably water-based. Upon use of an adhesive crosslinkable by heat, the crosslinking temperature of the adhesive is lower than the softening temperature of the plastic or the lacquer layer () in which there is present the relief structure (). The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such a card.

The invention relates to a data carrier into which, by a laser beam, identifiers () are introduced in the form of patterns, letters, numbers and/or images that are visible due to local changes in the optical properties of the data carrier, effected by the laser beam and resulting from material transformations. According to the present invention, the data carrier comprises a laser-sensitive recording layer () that is transparent in the visible spectral range and that is provided with a surface relief in the form of a lens grid (). The identifiers are introduced with the laser beam from different directions through the lens grid () into the recording layer () and are perceptible when later viewed from those same directions. The data carrier is transparent at least in the area of the introduced identifiers ().
