Closures with a tamper evidence feature that is reshaped to connect it to the container neck are disclosed. Methods and systems for carrying out the methods, and to mold stacks for making the closures are also disclosed. The tamper evidence feature can be a band, a portion of a cylindrical skirt or a panel formed in the cylindrical skirt. The application of heat may deform the band inwardly to create a lip for engaging a flange on the container neck, or it may weld the tamper evidence feature to the flange.

Method of securing a closure on a container

A closure () with a shell () for securement to a container neck () and a lid () pivotally connected to the shell () by a pair of hinge elements (). A hinge line () in the side wall () delineates a deformable latch () having an external grip tab () and an internal engaging tab () between the grip tab () and a top wall () of the lid (). The grip tab () extends radially from a side wall () of the lid () and the engaging tab () engages a lip () surrounding the mouth of the container neck (). The deformable latch () is configured to deform along the hinge line () when an opening force is applied to the grip tab (), thereby to disengage the engaging tab () from the lip () of the container neck ().
