A method for analyzing particles and particularly sediments of urine is accomplished by distributing the sample over an extended area. A plurality of optical still images is taken of the sample, with each image representing a different portion of the area. Each optical image is converted into an electronic image, with the images of the particles in the electronic images. The images of the particles are extracted from the electronic images. The images of the particles are displayed in an ordered array by classes of visually discernible characteristics.

Method of analyzing particles in a fluid sample

Method and apparatus are disclosed for creating optical displays from a real optical scene with an optical feedback circuit projecting a parameter of the original scene for combination with the original scene itself or an image thereof. The feedback circuit may influence the parametric image in many ways to influence the combined optical display. For instance, the parametric image may be a negative of the real scene to produce a null combined display showing motion where the parametric image is time delayed or the parametric image may be defocused to produce a combined display with edge enhancement. The feedback circuit may project a vertical parametric image to create fixed relation combined displays or the feedback circuit can project real parametric images continuously to create a combined display which changes progressively as a function of the relation between original and parametric images. The method and apparatus may be used for a variety of purposes such as motion detection in security devices or live sperm counting or real image enhancement in biological microscopy.

Method and apparatus for producing optical displays

Method of analyzing particles in a dilute fluid sample

The method and apparatus for analyzing particles and particularly blood cells by conveying the particles along a broad shallow path where the path is magnified and converted into a series of still frame images with multiple particles in individual images. The still frame images are manipulated and combined as digital images to generate measures of the blood cells in the overall fluid sample giving different selected measures, such as, particle count, particle count of different kinds of cells, cell area, and cell count of different predetermined categories of cell type.

Flow analyzer and system for analysis of fluids with particles

An indirect method for the quantitation of an antigen or antibody in a liquid sample. In the antigen assay, antigen of the same type as the sample antigen is adsorbed onto a solid support surface. Then, specific labelled antibody is immunologically reacted in solution with the sample antigen and the adsorbed antigen. The quantity of reacted labelled antibody on the solid support surface is then determined, as for example, fluorogen label by a fluorometer. The procedure is employed for detection of antibody by reversing the antigen and antibody components in each instance.

Indirect solid surface test for antigens or antibodies

An improved method for the fluorometric measurement of a fluorescent label on a solid support surface in which the surface is read while coated with a continuous aqueous layer. For reading in a horizontal position, the surface is coated by immersion into a contained aqueous solution, and removed and read prior to evaporation to discontinuity. For reading in a vertical position, a layer of humectant is deposited on the surface to retain the water content.

Method for reading a wet fluorescent surface

A method for quantitation of antigens or antibodies from a liquid sample on a solid surface. The sample is first sorbed directly to a nonimmunological surface. Then the surface is exposed to antibody or antigen labelled preferably with a fluorogen, to cause an immunological reaction to occur. After removal of unreacted reagent from the surface, the quantity of reacted labelled reagent is determined, as for example, fluorogen by a fluorometer. When the sample includes significant quantities of protein other than the antigen or antibody to be quantitated, buffer protein unreactive with the labelled antigen or antibody is added in concentrations sufficient to minimize the dependence of sorbed antigen or antibody upon variations in the concentration of such other protein.
