Systems and methods relating to establishment of a Packet Data Unit, PDU, session over a Non 3GPP Access to a 3GPP network and transmitting IP data and non-IP data are provided. A method of operation of a wireless device is provided and comprises sending to an AMF over an N3IWF a PDU session request to establish a PDU session to transport one of IP data or non-IP data over an established first IPsec, Security Association, SA, establishing an IPSec Child SA, for the PDU session and associating the IPSec Child SA to a PDU session then encapsulating the data using ESP encapsulation or GRE encapsulation associated with the IPSec Child SA and indicating the type of data that is being transmitted (e.g., non-IP data that comprises raw application data). In this manner, an IoT device is able to securely transmit to the 3GPP network IP data/non-IP data/raw application data over an unsecure non 3GPP access network such as Wireless Local Area Network. Methods and apparatus describing the NAS signalling and the PDU session as each using their respective IPSec SA are provided. Similarly, methods and apparatus describing the NAS signalling and the PDU sessions sharing a common IPSec SA are provided. GRE encapsulation of the data within the ESP frame is described for both NAS signalling and PDU session in the case of multiple IPSec/Child SAs or common IPSec SA. Similarly, methods and apparatus are provided for the N3IWF which provides for the UE secure access to the network.

The invention relates to a node in a communications network for enabling communication with at least one wireless communication terminal served by the communications network. According to an embodiment, the node stores at least one current User Equipment (UE) context of the at least one communication terminal to be used by a first network entity of the plurality of network entities in the communications network; receives, from a second network entity of the plurality of network entities, a message intended for the first network entity; and delivers at least a part of the received message to the first network entity and at least a part of the stored at least one current UE context to be used by the first network entity.

Systems and methods for efficient delivery of infrequent small data are provided. A system for providing communication infrequent small Protocol Data Units (PDUs) to/from a UE includes an Access Node (AN); a session management functions node; and a User Plane (UP) functions entity. The session management functions node receives a session setup request and selects the UP functions entity and a tunnel identifier associated with the UE. In case of an IP PDU session type, trigger an establishment of a UP. The UP functions entity creates a UE context for the UE; stores the UE context for the UE; completes an establishment in a Control Plane (CP); and provides the AN with uplink tunnel information. The AN stores the UE context and transmits a session setup response to the UE. In this way, an improved ratio of the signalling/user data relation may be obtained for devices sending infrequent small data.

A node () of a wireless communication network controls connectivity of a radio device () to the wireless communication network. The connectivity is based on parallel usage of a first radio technology and a second radio technology. The cellular communications system further comprises a plurality of SGW-UP pools each comprising one or more SGW User entities (SGW-Us), wherein each SGW-UP pool serves a respective one of the plurality of SGW-UP service areas. In this manner, the coordination problem between Tracking Areas (TAs) and the SGW-UP service areas is avoided.

Example embodiments presented herein are directed towards a stateless mobility management node, and corresponding methods therein, for handling a mobility procedure for a wireless device within a wireless communications network. The example embodiments provide for the management of a common external database shared by the stateless mobility management node and at least one other stateless mobility management node, and storing context information for wireless devices served by the stateless mobility management nodes. Such management allows for migrating the network towards a virtualized and stateless architecture. A method, device, and computer program product for facilitating device-to-device, D2D, communication among wireless communication devices, WCDs, is provided. The device is a first WCD that receives a wireless packet broadcasted by a second WCD. The wireless packet has one or more of i) a group identifier that identifies a group to which the second WCD belongs and ii) an application identifier that identifies an application which generated at least part of the wireless packet. Methods, devices, and computer program products for facilitating device-to-device communication among wireless communication devices

A method performed by a first network node operating in a wireless communication network for enabling events triggered by a wireless device served by the first network node to be reported in the wireless communications network is provided. The first network node determines that an event has been triggered by the wireless device. Then, the first network node context information associated with the wireless device from a database node that is shared externally by the first network node with one or more network nodes in the wireless communications network, which context information indicates that events triggered in the first network node by the wireless device is to be reported in the wireless communications network. After the obtaining, the first network node determines that events triggered by the wireless device is to be reported in the wireless communications network based on the obtained context information.
