A method performed by a first node, for handling transmission of one or more packets and/or one or more messages from a sending to a receiving node. The first node operates in a communications network having at least one intermediate node between the sending and the receiving node. The first node sends a first indication to a second node explicitly indicating whether or not at least one of: i) the one or more packets are, or are to be, duplicated over a General Packet Radio Service Tunneling Protocol (GTP) layer, ii) duplication of the packets over the GTP layer is enabled, supported and/or active, iii) one or more messages are, or are to be, duplicated over a Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) layer between the first node and one or more next hop nodes, and iv) duplication of the messages over the SCTP layer is enabled, supported and/or active.

First node, second node and methods performed thereby for handling transmissions in a communications network

A method is performed by a source Central Unit (CU) in an Integrated Access and Wireless Access Backhaul (IAB) network. The method includes transmitting, by the source CU, a message requesting a handover of a plurality of migrating devices associated with a first IAB node migrating from the source CU to a target CU. The message comprises at least one globally unique identifier of at least one management function serving the plurality of migrating devices.

N2 aspects of integrated access and wireless access backhaul node inter-donor migration

Embodiments include methods performed by a radio access network (RAN) node of a wireless communication system. Such methods include receiving, from a wireless device via a cell, a request to resume an RRC connected state with the wireless communication network. The request includes a cause indicator that indicates mobility signaling as a cause for resuming the RRC connected state. Such methods include, based on the cause indicator, requesting an access and mobility management function (AMF) of the wireless communication system to perform a tracking area update (TAU) for the wireless device. Such methods include receiving from the AMF an indication that the TAU for the wireless device is complete and in response to the received indication, initiating an access-stratum (AS) procedure for the wireless device. Other embodiments include complementary methods for AMFs as well as RAN node and AMFs configured to perform such methods.

Indicating RAN notification area update (RNAU) in RRC_INACTIVE state

A method for avoiding unnecessary actions in a connection establishment comprises sending a request to a network node to initiate the connection establishment, upon sending the request to the network node, starting a timer for the connection establishment, wherein an expiration of the timer stops the connection establishment for a user equipment (UE), and stopping the timer to stop the connection establishment upon the UE receiving a suspend message or a release message, or upon the UE performing a cell reselection procedure while the timer is running. The timer may prevent the UE from waiting the connection establishment to be completed if there is an error or bad transmission in the connection establishment. Furthermore, the timer to stop the connection establishment may avoid unnecessary actions and inform other layers in the network when the timer expires to stop the connection establishment.

Method for avoiding unnecessary actions in resume procedure

One aspect provides a method performed by a radio access network node in a telecommunications network. The method comprises: responsive to detection of a trigger event associated with a wireless device having a connection to the telecommunications network via the radio access network node or seeking to establish a connection to the telecommunications network via the radio access network node, transmitting a message directly to a user plane core network node providing functionality for the connection via the radio access network node, the message comprising one or more of: an indication of an identifier of the wireless device; and an indication of an identifier of a session for the wireless device. The user plane core network node has access to a data storage layer shared between a plurality of user plane core network nodes, the data storage layer storing respective contexts for the sessions of a plurality of wireless devices, including the wireless device.

Tunnel initiation in a communications network

A method for inter-Radio Access Technology (RAT) handover comprises preparing, at a target node, a reconfiguration message based on that the target node is inter-RAT and intra-system to a source node, and sending, to the source node, the reconfiguration message for forwarding the reconfiguration message to a user equipment (UE). The reconfiguration message comprises configuration for reconfiguring lower layer at the UE and further keeps the UE from reconfiguring upper-layer configuration. The target node disclosed in the method prepares a reconfiguration message specific to different types of RAT combination and system between the source node and the target node to provide loss-less and in-order data delivery during and after the handover.

Method for inter-radio access technology handover

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes receiving a downlink signal comprising an uplink access configuration index, using the uplink access configuration index to identify an uplink access configuration from among a predetermined plurality of uplink access configurations, and transmitting to the wireless communications network according to the identified uplink access configuration. The example method further includes, in the same wireless device, receiving, in a first subframe, a first Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission formatted according to a first numerology and receiving, in a second subframe, a second OFDM transmission formatted according to a second numerology, the second numerology differing from the first numerology. Variants of this method, corresponding apparatuses, and corresponding network-side methods and apparatuses are also disclosed.

Network architecture, methods, and devices for a wireless communications network

One aspect provides a method performed by a radio access network node in a telecommunications network. The method comprises: responsive to detection of a trigger event associated with a wireless device having a connection to the telecommunications network via the radio access network node or seeking to establish a connection to the telecommunications network via the radio access network node, transmitting, directly to a user plane core network node, a message initiating establishment of a user-plane tunnel for the connection between the radio access network node and the user plane core network node. The message comprises one or more of: an indication of an identifier of the wireless device; and an indication of an identifier of a session for the wireless device, and further comprises an indication of a downlink tunnel endpoint identifier of the radio access network node.

According to certain embodiments, a target network node for communicating with a user equipment (UE) that was previously in communication with a source network node, comprises an interface operably coupled to processing circuitry. The interface is configured to receive a connection resume request from the user equipment, wherein the connection resume request comprises a resume identification associated with the source network node. The processing circuitry is configured to determine that the UE was previously in communication with the source network node. The interface is further configured to transmit the connection resume request to the source network node, receive a radio resource control (RRC) response from the source network node, and forward the RRC response to the UE.

Systems and methods are disclosed herein relating to wireless device behavior after rejection of a resume request triggered by a Radio Access Network (RAN) based Notification Area Update (RNAU) or upon cell reselection during resume. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a wireless device comprises transmitting, to a RAN node, a Radio Resource Control (RRC) resume request triggered by an RNAU and receiving, from the RAN node, an RRC resume reject message comprising a wait timer value in response to the RRC resume request. The method further comprises starting a wait timer initialized with the wait timer value and sending the RNAU when the wait timer has expired. Corresponding embodiments of a wireless device are also disclosed. Systems and methods are disclosed herein for User Equipment (UE) assisted data collection for mobility prediction. In one embodiment, a method performed by a UE for UE-assisted data collection for mobility prediction comprises receiving, from a network node of a cellular communications system, a UE trajectory prediction model for predicting a UE trajectory. The method further comprises executing the UE trajectory prediction model to generate a predicted trajectory for the UE, comparing the actual UE trajectory to the predicted UE trajectory, and sending, to a network node of the cellular communications system, a result of the comparison of the actual UE trajectory to the predicted UE trajectory. In this manner, mobility prediction performance is improved.

The disclosure relates to a method in a wireless device for transmitting an uplink signalling message in a wireless communication network. The wireless device is connected to a first network element over at least a first and a second wireless link. The method comprises determining a transmission mode among alternative transmission modes for transmitting the uplink signalling message.
