One aspect provides a method performed by a radio access network node in a telecommunications network. The method comprises: responsive to detection of a trigger event associated with a wireless device having a connection to the telecommunications network via the radio access network node or seeking to establish a connection to the telecommunications network via the radio access network node, transmitting, directly to a user plane core network node, a message initiating establishment of a user-plane tunnel for the connection between the radio access network node and the user plane core network node. The message comprises one or more of: an indication of an identifier of the wireless device; and an indication of an identifier of a session for the wireless device, and further comprises an indication of a downlink tunnel endpoint identifier of the radio access network node.

Tunnel initiation in a communications network

According to certain embodiments, a target network node for communicating with a user equipment (UE) that was previously in communication with a source network node, comprises an interface operably coupled to processing circuitry. The interface is configured to receive a connection resume request from the user equipment, wherein the connection resume request comprises a resume identification associated with the source network node. The processing circuitry is configured to determine that the UE was previously in communication with the source network node. The interface is further configured to transmit the connection resume request to the source network node, receive a radio resource control (RRC) response from the source network node, and forward the RRC response to the UE.

Method and apparatus for handling discontinuous reception in a communications network

Systems and methods are disclosed herein relating to wireless device behavior after rejection of a resume request triggered by a Radio Access Network (RAN) based Notification Area Update (RNAU) or upon cell reselection during resume. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a wireless device comprises transmitting, to a RAN node, a Radio Resource Control (RRC) resume request triggered by an RNAU and receiving, from the RAN node, an RRC resume reject message comprising a wait timer value in response to the RRC resume request. The method further comprises starting a wait timer initialized with the wait timer value and sending the RNAU when the wait timer has expired. Corresponding embodiments of a wireless device are also disclosed. Embodiments of a wireless device and methods of operation thereof related to the behavior of the wireless device upon performing a cell reselection during resume are also disclosed.

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for User Equipment (UE) assisted data collection for mobility prediction. In one embodiment, a method performed by a UE for UE-assisted data collection for mobility prediction comprises receiving, from a network node of a cellular communications system, a UE trajectory prediction model for predicting a UE trajectory. The method further comprises executing the UE trajectory prediction model to generate a predicted trajectory for the UE, comparing the actual UE trajectory to the predicted UE trajectory, and sending, to a network node of the cellular communications system, a result of the comparison of the actual UE trajectory to the predicted UE trajectory. In this manner, mobility prediction performance is improved.

The disclosure relates to a method in a wireless device for transmitting an uplink signalling message in a wireless communication network. The wireless device is connected to a first network element over at least a first and a second wireless link. The method comprises determining a transmission mode among alternative transmission modes for transmitting the uplink signalling message. The alternative transmission modes comprise: transmitting on the first wireless link; transmitting on the second wireless link; and transmitting on both the first and the second wireless links. The method also comprises transmitting the uplink signalling message according to the determined transmission mode. A wireless device performs a method for updating a stored configuration. While in a power saving state, the wireless device monitors a paging channel. When the wireless device receives a paging message on the paging channel, it determines whether the paging channel includes a message relating to updating a stored configuration of the wireless device. If the paging channel includes a message relating to updating the stored configuration of the wireless device, the wireless device performs actions determined by said message.

A wireless device performs a method for resuming a Radio Resource Control, RRC, connection. While in a power saving state, the wireless device monitors a paging 5channel. When the wireless device receives a paging message on the paging channel, it determines whether the paging channel includes a message enabling the wireless device to resume the RRC connection. If the paging channel includes a message enabling the wireless device to resume the RRC connection, the wireless device performs actions determined by said message.

Example embodiments presented herein are directed towards a wireless device and a network node, and corresponding methods therein, for prescheduling uplink communications in a wireless network. Such prescheduling is performed prior to the time the uplink communication is needed. According to the example embodiments, the prescheduling is performed with the network node having knowledge of a communication pattern of the wireless device via at least one prescheduling parameter obtained by the network node.

Systems and methods for handling a wireless device in a Configuration Management (CM)-Connected state with Radio Resource Control (RRC) Inactive state are provided. In some embodiments, a method for performing a mobility transfer from a Fifth Generation network to an Evolved Packet System (EPS) network includes a 5G network node: receiving, from an EPS network node, a context request for context associated with a User Equipment (UE); determining data forwarding information associated with the UE; and sending, to the EPS network node, a context response comprising context information associated with the UE and data forwarding information associated with the UE. In this way, packet losses will be minimized leading to improved end user performance.

A method performed by a wireless device includes receiving a Radio Resources Control Reject (RRCReject) message and determining whether to act on the RRCReject message based on a configuration of the wireless device. According to an aspect, a user equipment, UE, in a suspended state in a Radio Access Network, RAN, in response to expiration of a first timer, transmits an RRCResumeRequest message. The UE receives a reject message in response to the RRCResumeRequest message. In response to the reject message, the UE starts a second timer and subsequently transmits a further RRCResumeRequest message. The further RRCResumeRequest message is received by the network during a period bounded approximately by the lesser of a duration of the second timer and a period of the periodic UE event and the greater of the duration of the second timer and the period of the periodic UE event.
