A method for recycling textiles comprising cellulose with the following steps of: optionally disintegrating the textile, swelling the cellulose, under reducing conditions, wherein at least one reducing agent is present at least during a part of the swelling, and then performing at least one of the following two bleaching steps in any order: i) bleaching the material with oxygen at alkaline conditions with a pH in the range 9-13.5, and ii) bleaching the material with ozone at acid conditions below pH 6. An advantage is that the yield is improved at the same time as excellent decolourization is achieved. If the recycled material is used in viscose manufacture, the risk of clogging nozzles and so on is reduced.

Recycling of cellulosic textiles

A method for recycling textiles comprising cellulose with the following steps of: optionally disintegrating the textile, Swelling the cellulose, under reducing conditions, wherein at least one reducing agent is present at least during a part of the swelling, and then performing at least one of the following two bleaching steps in any order: i) bleaching the material with oxygen at alkaline conditions with a pH in the range 9-13.5, and ii) bleaching the material with ozone at acid conditions below pH 6. An advantage is that the yield is improved at the same time as excellent decolourization is achieved. If the recycled material is used in viscose manufacture, the risk of clogging nozzles and so on is reduced.

There is provided a cellulose based fiber made of a i) cellulose dissolving pulp, and ii) a recycled cellulose textile, which is treated to swell the cellulose with a reducing additive and a) bleached with oxygen at alkaline conditions with a pH in the range 9-13.5 and/or b) bleached with ozone at acid conditions below pH 6, wherein the cellulose based fiber is manufactured with one selected from a Viscose process and a Lyocell process. Advantages include that the tensile strength of the fiber is improved and it is possible to manufacture improved cellulose fibers which comprise a fraction of recycled material.

Cellulose fibers

A method for regeneration of a cellulose containing material, comprises the steps: a) exposing the cellulose containing material to oxygen with an alkali aqueous solution at a pH of at least 9, and a temperature of at least 20&#xb0; C., b) dispersing the cellulose containing material in the alkali aqueous solution, wherein the temperature of the alkali aqueous solution is lowered below 15&#xb0; C., and wherein the pH of the alkali aqueous solution is above 9, c) adding an organic solvent to the dispersion to precipitate cellulose, and d) separating the precipitated cellulose by at least one method selected from filtering and centrifugation. The method makes it possible to maintain a high alkali pH value in the process, which saves costs since the pH value does not have to be lowered by additions of various additives. The method makes it possible to remove non-cellulose parts of the cloth.

Regeneration of cellulose

There is disclosed a process for the derivatization of cellulose comprising the sequential steps: a) mixing cellulose with a viscosity below 900 ml/g with an aqueous solution to obtain a liquid, wherein particles comprising cellulose in said liquid have a diameter of maximum 200 nm, wherein the temperature of the aqueous solution is below 20&#xb0; C., and wherein the pH of the aqueous solution is above 12, b) subjecting the liquid to at least one of the steps: i) decreasing the pH of the liquid with at least 1 pH unit, ii) increasing the temperature by at least 20&#xb0; C., and c) derivatization of the cellulose. Advantages include that there is provided the possibility to derivatize cellulose faster and to a greater extent after the treatment. Further the yield is improved. The product quality is improved and the manufacture is cheaper and easier.

Process for the derivatization of cellulose

The invention relates to methods of manufacturing nano pulp, wherein cellulose containing raw material is accelerated in a continuous gas and/or liquid flow, whereby the material is disintegrated and nano pulp is produced. The gas and/or liquid flow may be created by reduction of an elevated pressure in a reactor holding the cellulose containing raw material. The invention also relates to the nano pulp produced.

Single-step method for production of nano pulp by acceleration and disintegration of raw material

A method to increase the molecular weight of wood mannans and xylans comprising aromatic moieties comprises the steps: a) obtaining mannan and/or xylan from wood, b) subjecting the mannan/xylan to oxidizing conditions to convert at least a fraction of the aromatic groups into radicals and reacting said radicals with each other to obtain complexes of mannan/xylan with increased molecular weight. The method is easy and cost efficient and enables to upgrade small wood mannans and xylans that are important in the pulp and paper industry into larger mannans and xylans and more defined structures which makes their isolation easier and application areas broader. Another advantage is that separation of mannans and xylans from mannans and xylans with bound aromatic groups is provided. The wood mannans and xylans with increased molecular weight can be used for the manufacture of barrier films in packages, for instance for oxygen, liquids and gas.

Method to increase the molecular weight of wood mannans and xylans comprising aromatic moieties

There is disclosed a process for the hydrolysis of cellulose comprising the sequential steps (a) mixing cellulose with a viscosity below 900 ml/g with an aqueous solution to obtain a liquid, wherein particles comprising cellulose in said liquid have a diameter of maximum 200 nm, wherein the temperature of the aqueous solution is below 35&#xb0; C., and wherein the pH of the aqueous solution is above 12, (b) subjecting the liquid to at least one of the steps: (i) decreasing the pH of the liquid with at least 1 pH unit and (ii) increasing the temperature by at least 20&#xb0; C., and (c) hydrolyzing the cellulose. Moreover there is disclose glucose manufactured according to the method and ethanol manufactured from the glucose. Advantages include that the cellulose is hydrolyzed faster and to a greater extent after the treatment. The yield is increased.

Process for the hydrolysis of cellulose

A method of treating chemical pulp for the manufacture of microfibrillated cellulose includes the following steps: a) providing a hemicellulose containing pulp, b) refining the pulp in at least one step and treating the pulp with one or more wood degrading enzymes at a relatively low enzyme dosage, and c) homogenizing the pulp thus providing the microfibrillated cellulose. A microfibrillated cellulose obtainable by the method is also provided. The microfibrillated cellulose can be used in food products, paper products, composite materials, coatings or in rheology modifiers (e.g. drilling muds).
