A spin finish composition is disclosed which contains an associative thickener which does not significantly affect the initial viscosity of the spin finish composition but which causes a substantial increase in viscosity as water contained therein decreases from its initial level to about 70%, and which effects no substantial change in viscosity of the composition as the water contained therein decreases from 40 to 0%. By virtue of this behavior, a spin finish composition results which can be improved in terms of spreadability on the yarns, package build, spin line coherence, the number of broken filaments and the tackiness of the snow formed on the texturings disks. Additionally, variations in the evnironment in which spin finish is applied e.g., temperature and humidity, do not substsantially affect its performance.
