A PDP includes first and second substrates, a plurality of electrodes between the first and second substrates, a plurality of barrier ribs between the first and second substrates to define discharge cells, at least one dielectric layer on the electrodes, at least one photoluminescent layer in each discharge cell, a discharge gas in the discharge cells, and a protective layer on the dielectric layer, the protective layer including magnesium oxide and a light-scattering material having a general formula MO, where M includes one or more of zinc and/or titanium and 1&#x2266;x&#x2266;2, the light-scattering material having a particle size of about 100 nm to about 900 nm and being present in the protective layer in an amount of about 1% to about 20% by weight of a total weight of the dielectric layer.

Plasma display panel and method of manufacturing thereof

Provided is a plasma display panel that includes a plurality of substrates disposed facing each other, a plurality of discharge electrodes disposed within the substrates and a predetermined discharge voltage is applied to the discharge electrodes, barrier ribs which are disposed between the substrates and define discharge cells, and a plurality of phosphor layers coated in the discharge cells to emit a plurality of colors for color images, wherein a raw material for forming at least one phosphor layer of the phosphor layers is mixed in the barrier ribs. The plasma display panel can increase luminous efficiency of discharge cells that have low luminous efficiency and can increase color temperature at full white.

Plasma display panels (PDPs) that can be readily manufactured and that have increased bright room contrast ratios are provided. One PDP includes a front substrate adapted to allow visible light to pass, a rear substrate facing the front substrate, and a plurality of barrier ribs disposed between the front substrate and the rear substrate defining a plurality of discharge cells. At least a portion of the barrier ribs is colored with a first color. The PDP further comprises a plurality of sustain electrodes disposed on the front substrate facing the rear substrate, each of which has a plurality of electrode parts. The PDP also includes a front dielectric layer disposed on the front substrate covering the sustain electrodes. The front dielectric layer is colored with a second color. Brightness and chroma of both of the first and second colors are reduced when the first and second colors are subtractively mixed.
