A system and method for monitoring the activity of a mobile subscriber in a GSM-based PLMN system from an Intelligent Network (IN) telecommunications system comprising several Intelligent Peripherals (IPs) connected to a Service Control Point (SCP) over a network. The detailed technique is automatically initiated when the Service Control Point (SCP) of an IN system attempts to reach a mobile subscriber and fails. In the first phase, the SCP arms an SMS-IP using a dummy SMS message. Upon the detection of renewed subscriber activity of a mobile subscriber who was previously inactive or unreachable, a PLMN triggering notification is generated. In this second phase, the PLMN transmits an alert to the SMS-IP which in turn notifies the SCP.

A system and method for conforming the service profiles for non-call-related store-and-forward messages to those applicable to calls in an Intelligent Network (IN) telecommunications system comprising several Intelligent Peripherals (IPs) connected to a Service Control Point (SCP) over a network. When an IP handling outgoing calls and messages receives an outgoing message or when an IP handling incoming calls is queried by a subscriber, the IP interrogates the SCP to determine whether any IN services such as restriction control and number translation have been requested, selected or imposed by or on either the sending or the receiving parties. The SCP acknowledges the interrogation and returns the generated results to the IP for further processing, optionally by retrieving and analyzing a service script corresponding to either the originating or the terminating party.

A system and method for facilitating the automatic or programmatic set up of calls and store-and-forward services by or under the direction of an IP in an Intelligent Network (IN) telecommunications system comprising several Intelligent Peripherals (IPs) connected to a Service Control Point (SCP) over a network. The various IPs are also linked with each other over a distinct telecommunications backbone. When a subscriber opens a dialogue with an IP to schedule an automatic call set up at a later time and date, the IP orders the SCP to set up a call at the desired time to the desired number by issuing a 'Set Up Call' command. In response the SCP sets up the call to one or more subscriber(s) and confirms this to the initiating IP. The SCP then returns call set up results to the IP.

A system and method for the conversion of messages from one medium to another in an Intelligent Network (IN) telecommunications system comprising several Intelligent Peripherals (IPs) connected to a Service Control Point (SCP) over a network. The various IPs are also linked to each other over a distinct telecommunications backbone. The SCP orders a conversion IP to retrieve the received message over the telecommunications backbone and convert it to a specified medium, which may optionally be specified by the recipient. When the conversion process is complete, the SCP orders a delivery IP to retrieve and deliver the converted message to the intended recipient.
