Embodiments are provided for uniquely identifying and tracking selectable web page objects and presenting tracked activity for the selectable objects. In some cases, an analytics tool is used to collect and present link activity based on analytics data for a given selectable object of a content page, such as a clickable link or image. For example, a method analyzes a content page comprising a plurality of selectable objects and determines, based on the analyzing, a page identifier for the content page, and region identifiers for regions within the content page. The method generates, for each of the selectable objects, a unique object identifier comprising the page identifier, a region identifier corresponding to a region of the page where the object is located, and a link identifier. Link activity corresponding to the selectable objects is tracked and displayed, the link activity being based on measured analytics data over periods of time.

Analytics report segments and controls techniques are described in which an analytics module enables retrieval and manipulation of analytics data for a marketing service within a host application, such as a spreadsheet application. The analytics module provides an interactive dialog for insertion of form controls into documents designed as filters for analytics data embedded in the documents. In response to changes in values for the form controls, the analytics module is configured to query a marketing service and update the analytics data accordingly Additionally, the analytics module is be configured to facilitate creation of new segments from directly within the host application based upon a selection of analytics data contained in a corresponding document.

Methods and apparatus for presenting a visualization of content and analytics data for content accessed from one or more devices, where the visualization includes a display of the content as it would appear on a given device. In some cases, an analytics visualization tool displays the content overlaid with analytics data specific to a device and to the content. Additionally, the analytics visualization tool may request a content page from a content server, where the request includes an indication of being a particular device, and in response, a content page is received formatted according to the particular device. The analytics visualization tool may then display the received content page along with analytics data that has been segmented according to the device and according to the content page.
