A method for configuring a surgical guide and an associated implant. The implant and surgical guide are for maxillofacial osteosynthesis. Three-dimensional models of the pre- and post-operative anatomy are used to define attachment points. These attachment points are used to determine a structure for the implant and surgical guide.

Implant and guide

A medical device comprising a substantially flexible porous structure. The porous structure comprises a plurality of interlocking units. Each of the plurality of interlocking units comprises a body and at least one arm. The plurality of interlocking units is configured to have space between adjacent interlocking units when the porous structure is in a neutral configuration. The plurality of interlocking units is configured to contact the respective body and arm of adjacent interlocking units when a compressive force is applied to the porous structure, thereby restricting compression of the porous structure. The plurality of interlocking units is configured to contact the respective arms of adjacent interlocking units when an extension force is applied to the porous structure, thereby restricting extension of the porous structure.

Medical device

An implant and guide are described, together with methods for configuring the same. The implant and guide are for maxillofacial osteosynthesis and may be provided as a kit. Three-dimensional models of the pre- and post-operative anatomy are used to define attachment points. These attachment points are used to define a structure for the implant and the guide.

Disclosed is a medical device () comprising a porous structure (), wherein a configuration of the porous structure () varies in dependence on a load applied to the porous structure (), such that the porous structure () has a first configuration when the load is of a first magnitude, and has a second configuration when the load is of a second magnitude greater than the first magnitude. The porous structure () comprises a first surface portion () and a second surface portion (). The first surface portion () is disengaged from the second surface portion () when the porous structure () has the first configuration, and is engaged with the second surface () portion when the porous structure () has the second configuration.

A temporo-mandibular joint prosthesis comprising: a first part for attaching to a temporal bone; a second part for attaching to a mandible bone; and a mechanism linking the first part and the second part. The mechanism defines a range of motion of the first part relative to the second part for when the first and second parts are attached to a temporal bone and a mandible bone, respectively. The mechanism includes a rotary joint providing a rotational range of motion of the first part relative to the second part; and a first slider joint providing a first translational range of motion of the first part relative to the second part.

Prosthesis

The invention relates to a customized intraoral jaw distractor, of the type that comprises two anchoring means () fastened to the mandibular body at two fixed anchor points, located on either side of the osseous callus. Such a distractor is characterized in that it includes: a) a threaded cylindrical rail () connecting the two anchoring means (); b) a mobile carriage () guided to slide on the rail () and attached to the osseous segment to be distracted, said mobile carriage being provided with a worm screw () with a thread that complements that of the rail and engages with the latter; c) a pin () integral to the worm screw () and controlling the rotation thereof, said pin, which is parallel to the rail (), being supported by two bearings () arranged on the mobile carriage (), on either side of the worm screw; d) at least one resilient part () through which said pin () passes and which rests against one end () of the worm screw () and against the inner wall () of the bearing () that faces said end (). The invention can be used for reconstruction of a missing or deficient osseous segment by means of osteogenic distraction.

Customized intraoral jaw distractor and use of such a distractor in order to obtain almost continuous distraction

The present invention relates to a porous structure having a controlled pattern (), which is repeated in space, in three dimensions, said porous structure enabling the production of surgical implants for filling in bone defects. According to the invention, said structure is characterized in that said pattern () consists of three wings () arranged in a star shape, each angle (A) formed between two wings being substantially equal to 120&#xb0;, each wing having a generally rectangular shape and being hollowed () at the center thereof. Each of the three wings () of said pattern is advantageously beveled at its free end or tip (), and the width of the base () of each bevel is slightly greater than the thickness of the wings () of which it forms an extension.
