Pyrogenically prepared, doped zinc oxide powder, wherein the doping component comprises at least one oxide from the group aluminum, gallium, indium, germanium, tin and is present in the doped zinc oxide powder in an amount of from 0.005 to 15 wt. %, and wherein the doped zinc oxide powder is in the form of aggregates of primary particles having a mean maximum diameter of from 30 to 400 nm. It is prepared by oxidation from zinc powder and at least one doping agent, wherein the process zones vaporisation, nucleation, oxidation and quenching are passed through and the doping agent is metered in in the nucleation zone, in which the temperature is below the boiling temperature of zinc. An aqueous dispersion containing abrasive particles comprises abrasive particles having superparamagnetic metal oxide domains in a non-magnetic metal oxide or non-metal oxide matrix. The abrasive particles of the aqueous dispersion can have an average particle size of below 400 nm and a BET surface area of 50 to 600 m /g. The dispersion can be produced by dispersing the abrasive particles with an energy of at least 200 kJ/m using a device in which the abrasive particles are first subjected to high pressure, then decompressed through a nozzle so that the abrasive particles collide with one another or against sections of wall in the device. The aqueous dispersion can be used for chemical mechanical polishing (CMP).

Pyrogenic, oxidic particles contain superparamagnetic metal oxide domains with a diameter of 3 to 20 nm in a non-magnetic metal or non-metal oxide matrix. The particles display a chloride content of 50 to 1000 ppm. The particles are produced by pyrogenic processes by mixing the precursor of the superparamagnetic domains and the precursor of the non-magnetic metal or non-metal oxide matrix in a flame with air and/or oxygen and fuel gas and reacting this mixture in a flame. The particles can be used as ferro fluids, for example.

A process for preparing grit blasting particles coated with titanium dioxide by sinter-fusing titanium dioxide on the surface of grit blasting particles made of a base material. A mixture of finely divided titanium dioxide and grit blasting particles is passed continuously through the flame in a flame reactor, with the aid of conveying air, wherein the titanium dioxide is sinter-fused on the surface of the grit blasting particles over an average residence time of 0.1 to 5 seconds in a temperature range from 600 to 1200&deg; C. An increase in the adhesive bond between metal framework and a facing material made of plastics in dentures can be achieved when metal framework is grit blasted with a grit blasting agent containing titanium dioxide coated grit blasting particles and then the grit blasted and titanium dioxide coated surface is treated with a silane bonding agent.
