An encoder for compressing a plurality of independent mono audio channels into a recording and generating a restricted set of additional parameters used to master an audio track of a storage device is described. The plurality of independent mono audio channels are constructed such that the storage device can be played using solid state disk player so that in a first mode all of the plurality of independent mono audio channels are played as the recording and in a second mode the original channels are reconstructed using a higher sample rate. A corresponding decoder and an audio system comprising such encoder and decoder are also described.

Data compression format

Two digital data sets are combined by equating a first subset of samples to neighboring samples from a second subset which is interleaved with the first subset of samples where the equated samples of the two digital data sets do not correspond in time, and by subsequently adding corresponding samples from both digital data sets. This results in a third digital data set that allows the unraveling of the two digital data sets. The third digital data set, when combining two digital audio streams into a single digital audio stream, is still a good mono representation of the two combined digital audio streams and can thus be reproduced on regular reproduction equipment, yet the use of a decoder according to the invention allows the unraveling of the two digital data sets from the third digital data set.

An encoder for mixing a plurality of independent mono audio channels into a stereo recording and generating a restricted set of additional parameters used to master an audio track of a storage device is described. The plurality of independent mono audio channels are constructed such that the storage device can be played using an optical disk player so that in a first mode all of the plurality of independent mono audio channels are played as the stereo recording and in a second mode at least one of the plurality of independent mono audio channels can be unmixed and the stereo recording played with at least one mono audio channel removed. A corresponding decoder and an audio system comprising such encoder and decoder are also described.

The invention disclosed is a system for playing a music sequence such as a MIDI file in synchronization with a prerecorded CD. The synchronization is accomplished by using the digital media sample rate as a common time base for progression of the playing of the digital media and the music sequence.

Method and apparatus for playing in synchronism with a CD an automated musical instrument

The invention disclosed herein is a system and method for playing music sequences, such as MIDI files in synchronization with a DVD. This system utilizes a preauthored music sequence and a controller that listens to the S/PDIF output of a DVD player. Further, this application discloses a method for creating MIDI files for use with the invention disclosed herein.
