A sorting machine at least for flat postal items comprises a stacking module having a plurality of stacking stations, which define respective channels along which the postal products are carried and a first plurality of rollers for handling the postal products along the stacking stations, a first carrying assembly defining a second channel configured for carrying the postal products towards the stacking module and comprising a second plurality of rollers for carrying the postal products, a plurality of deviating assemblies, each of which comprises a first device selectively mobile for deviating a flat into the channel of the desired stacking station, and a second carrying assembly delimiting an outlet channel communicating with the plurality of stacking stations, wherein at least one of the first and second rollers is mobile transversely with respect to the direction of conveyance of the postal products on the machine.

A method including treating packs of overlapping postal objects for generating singulated postal objects, directing each postal object towards a respective outlet selected from among a number n of selectable outlets. The method includes performing a first sorting step, accumulating, within an i-th selected outlet, postal objects belonging to K subgroups having homogeneous delivery points, and carrying out a step of re-processing the previously sorted postal objects, whereby the postal objects taken from the outlets are treated for forming ordered sets of postal objects, each set comprising the postal objects belonging to a respective homogeneous subgroup and being formed by postal objects ordered according to successive delivery points; and performing a second step of sorting ordered sets, on the basis of which the postal objects that have corresponding positions within each subgroup are sent to the respective outlets. The objects are accumulated according to successive delivery points in the outlets.

There is described a method of optimizing a mail sorting process having a first and at least a second sorting cycle performed in succession on a sorting machine, which receives a group of mail items at an input and supplies, at its outputs, the mail items identified and separated according to given sorting rules; in a given sorting cycle, the mail items being fed to the outputs of the machine according to a predetermined respective sorting criterion, and then being fed in orderly manner back into the input of the machine for a following sorting cycle; each output of the sorting machine being assigned at least one respective delivery location according to an assignment criterion related to the delivery order of the mail items in the delivery locations. The optimization method includes the steps of: assigning to a first group of delivery locations a first sorting identifier indicating to which sorting cycles the mail items in the first group of delivery locations are to be subjected, and to a second group of delivery locations a second sorting identifier indicating to which sorting cycles the mail items in the second group of delivery locations are to be subjected, the first and second sorting identifiers being different from each other; and subjecting each of the mail items to the sorting cycles indicated by the respective sorting identifiers.

Method of optimizing a mail sorting process

Method for controlling an accumulating device (buffer) having a number of tracks each of which defines at least one accumulation segment along which may be arranged sets of postal items partially overlying each other (shingled). One first section and one second section are defined as including, respectively, one first and one second sub-set of tracks designed to communicate at output, through singling devices, with sorting devices. For each section, successive phases of accumulation and unloading are carried out, thus achieving with great efficiency the unloading of postal items towards sorting devices, and thus enabling the handling of a large number of postal items towards the highest possible number of destinations.

A device for collecting and transporting groups of partly superimposed postal objects, aligned along a transport direction and having front edges spaced from each other. The device includes a plurality of first transport modules receiving as input groups of partly superimposed postal objects, and supplying these objects as output to a transport system, in particular, aloop transport system in communication with inlets of second transport modules. The transport system is coupled with a control unit to receive a group of partly superimposed postal objects output from any first source module, and supplying it to any second destination transport module.

A method for clearing outputs of a mail sorting machine concurrently with a current sorting cycle of a mail sorting process is disclosed. At each sorting cycle, each output of the sorting machine is assigned a number of respective delivery locations of the mail items. An indication of the time intervals when the outputs are available or unavailable, is represented by a matrix. Each element in the matrix is assigned a delivery location; and the column and row of each element represents the outputs occupied, by the mail items bearing the delivery location assigned to the box, at the end of the current sorting cycle and the logically preceding sorting cycle respectively. The method provides for defining non-addressable elements to which delivery locations cannot be assigned, so that the outputs may be cleared by a clearing resource at that time.

Planning procedure for clearing mail sorting machine outputs concurrently with a mail sorting process

Method of sorting postal objects in which a postal sorting machine has a first input and at least one second input and a plurality of outputs communicating with the inputs via a sorter device. The method comprises the steps of: supplying first and second streams of postal objects to the first and second inputs, directing the postal objects to all the outputs; withdrawing from at least some of the outputs groups of postal objects previously directed to respective outputs forming two collections of groups of postal objects; and operating in a transport mode which each postal object supplied to the first input is directed only towards a first subset of the outputs and each postal object supplied to the second input is directed only towards the second subset of the said output. During the said transport mode the groups of postal objects belonging to a respective collection are supplied respectively to the first and second input.
