Medical dressings including stiffening systems fixedly attached to backing layers are described herein along with methods of using the medical dressings. The stiffening system is fixedly secured to the backing to limit flexing and stretching of the backing layer. Typically, the medical dressing and stiffening system is applied over a medical device that is secured to skin. The stiffening system covers some of the medical device and also extends beyond the medical device. The stiffening system stabilizes the medical device over the skin.

A compression system for applying compression to a body part of a user. The compression system has a sleeve for substantially covering a portion of the body part of a user. The sleeve has two lateral side edges. In the transverse direction from the first lateral side edge to the second lateral side edge the sleeve has a first lateral side region, a central region and a second lateral side region. At least the central region of the sleeve has a material with elasticity in the transverse direction and longitudinal direction of the sleeve. The compression system has a releasable closure system. Upon closure of the closure system the sleeve is restrained and tightened about the body part of the user.

Compression device

Disclosed is a compression device for applying compression to a body part of a user. The compression devices comprises a sleeve for substantially covering a portion of the body part of a user, wherein the sleeve has an outer surface, an inner surface, an upper edge, a lower edge and two lateral side edges. In the transverse direction from the first lateral side edge to the second lateral side edge the sleeve comprises a first lateral side region, a central region and a second lateral side region. At least the central region of the sleeve comprises a main material having elasticity in at least the transverse direction of the sleeve. A maximum elongation in the transverse direction is from 5% up to and including 30% under a load of 10 N per cm width and a difference quotient of tension in transverse direction from 20% elongation to 25% elongation equal to or greater that 0.6 N per cm width per percent elongation. The device further comprising a releasable closure system configured and arranged relative to the sleeve, such that, in use, upon closure of the closure system the sleeve is restrained and tightened about the body part of the user.

A medical article and methods of using same. The medical article can include a machine direction (MD) and a cross-machine direction (CMD); a support layer; and a viscoelastic layer. The viscoelastic layer can be coupled to the support layer, and the viscoelastic layer can be discontinuous in the MD and/or the CMD. The viscoelastic layer can recover at least 70% of its deformation after 48 hours at room temperature after being strained to 50% elongation, such that the medical article has a first tensile stiffness Tat a first strain rate S, and a second tensile stiffness Tat a second strain rate S. The ratio of S/Scan be at least 100, and the ratio of T/Tcan be at least 1.5. The method can include wrapping the medical article around a body part; applying the first strain rate S; and applying the second strain rate S.

A compression device for applying compression to a body part of a user. The compression device comprises a sleeve for substantially covering a portion of the body part of a user. The sleeve has an upper edge, a lower edge and an opening extending from its upper edge to its lower edge, said opening having two side edges. The first side edge is provided with one half of a zipper and the second side edge is provided with a complementary half of said zipper. Disclosed is a monitoring system for determining the efficacy of at least one compression device for use in compression therapy. The monitoring system comprises at least one pressure sensor for measuring a pressure exerted onto a body part of a user by the compression device and at least one evaluation unit which is connectable to the pressure sensor. The evaluation unit is adapted to acquire at least one resting pressure pwith the user being in a resting position. The evaluation unit is further adapted to determine at least one extended standing pressure pwith the user being in a standing position, by using the following procedure: the evaluation unit acquires a measurement curve of pressure values after a position change of the user into the standing position and a slope of the measurement curve is automatically compared to at least one endpoint threshold value and, depending on a result of the comparison, an endpoint of a change in the measurement curve induced by the position change is automatically detected, and a pressure value acquired at or after the endpoint is assigned to the extended standing pressure p.

Monitoring system for determining the efficacy of a compression device

The present invention relates to a scratch-resistant micro- and/or nanostructured surface comprising a plurality of micro-scale and/or nano-scale surface elements, said surface being essentially unchanged when being subjected to 10 rubbing cycles according to A.A.T.C.C. test method 8-1972 using a cotton cloth and a total stamp weight of 300 g, and comprising a polymeric material having 1) an elongation at break of at least 10%, 2) an irreversible relative plastic deformation (permanent set) of less than 2% and a 3) a tensile strength of at least 5 MPa.
