A network model for the planning and/or the provisioning of traffic flows in a communication network includes nodes interconnected with each other by links according to a given network topology. The network model uses a graph defined by arc objects storing information related to both the links and adjacent nodes thereof.

Method for configuring an optical network

A tool for static or dynamic planning of a WDM network with dedicated protection. The WDM network is represented by a layered graph having image nodes for each node of the network and horizontal arcs for each link of the network, so as to replicate in each layer the topology of the network. A Bhandari algorithm is adapted for finding on the layered graph a working-spare pair of lightpaths for each connection request to be allocated.

Optical device for processing a sequence of bits

An optical device comprises an input for an input optical impulse and an optical beam splitting element for supplying, from the input optical impulse, a first pair and a second pair of optical impulses. Also included is a first optical delay element to delay, by a predetermined time, at least one of the first pair of optical impulses and a second optical delay element to delay, by a predetermined time, at least one of the second pair of optical impulses. A first optical processing element supplies a first output optical signal to a first output when commanded by the first pair of optical impulses and a second optical processing element supplies a second output optical signal to a second output when commanded by the second pair of optical impulses.

An optical device to perform an asynchronous and parallel processing of a N bits serial stream of an optical digital signal comprises a) a serial to parallel converter which converts the serial stream of N bits into a first parallel pattern of N bits carrying the same information as the serial stream of N bits; b) an optical system to produce, from the parallel pattern of N bits, a first two-dimensional (2-D) image made of N rows and M columns (N&times;M) of bits, each column being associated to the digital optical signal by a predetermined relationship; c) a logic device to perform logic operations on the bits of the first 2-D image; and d) a device to send to an output the results of the logic operations.
