Various load items, such as freight pieces or passenger seats are to be secured to the loading floor of a transport conveyance. For this purpose a lashing device is constructed for a lashing function performed by a tiltable lashing bail or a latching function performed by a mounting rail profile cooperating with an interconnecting or interlocking element when the lashing bail is in a recessed position in a housing to which the lashing bail is journaled and in which a mounting member () carrying the mounting rail profile () is secured. When the lashing bail is in a raised, active position the mounting rail profile is in an inactive state and vice versa.

A pallet that is initially not completely aligned with a support structure, such as support rails in the floor of an aircraft, is properly aligned by the function of an aligning and coupling device which has two sections interconnected by a coupling member, such as a screw bolt that can be tightened. One section is connected to the support and the other section is connected to the pallet. Relative movement at least in a radial direction of the components of one section permit an adjustment. The relative movement is preferably permitted in the radial and axial direction. The continued tightening of the two sections to each other provide the required alignment.

A locking device for arresting a piece of freight in a loading system for an aircraft is especially adapted for use on an upper deck freight loading system for aircraft that can be retooled, either for passenger service or for freight service. The locking device is releasably secured to support rails extending longitudinally in the loading floor. The locking device has a frame in which a latching hook is mounted for longitudinal displacement against spring biasing forces, whereby the movement of the hook is damped. The latching hook and its latch pawl can be tilted into a recessed position below the floor level. The latch pawl is biased by tension springs to hold the latching hook in its operative position above the floor level.

Loads, such as pallets or freight containers, are guided and restrained on the loading floor of an aircraft by a device which provides guide rollers oriented in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the aircraft to hold pieces of freight in the horizontal direction. Additionally, cantilevered latching members hold a piece of freight against vertical and/or tilting movements. Both, the guide elements and the latching members are mounted to be tilted into the floor structure. The latching members perform simultaneously a rotating movement and a tilting movement when the device is moved or tilted into its recessed position below a top surface of the loading floor.

A guiding mechanism for loads on the loading floor of an aircraft has two separate guide elements tiltably mounted in a support frame. The frame with its guide elements is arranged so that the longitudinal frame axis extends substantially perpendicularly to the freight moving direction on the loading floor. Each guide element is equipped with guide rollers for guiding a vertical edge of a pallet and with a latching hook for guiding a horizontal edge of a pallet. The guide hooks prevent a tilting of a pallet. The guide elements are journalled in the frame, so that one of the guide elements is tiltable into the frame with its guide surface facing downwardly, while the other guide element is tiltable into the frame so that its guide surface faces substantially upwardly. Further, one of the two guide elements is equipped with a roll-over bail which tilts the respective guide element into the frame when a load rolls over the bail. Thus, a large pallet moves one of the guide elements out of the way, whereby the large pallet is guided by the other guide element.

The door sill of a cargo loading and unloading opening in an aircraft body is protected against damage by a cover plate that is hinged to the loading floor alongside the door opening to be tiltable outwardly to cover the sill when in the operative position. The outwardly pointing edge of the cover plate is supported by a support linkage, including a support link or section and a tie rod or bracing link, which are pivoted to the cover plate and to each other, so that the plate and its support linkage may be tilted into a recessed position in which the plate with its support linkage extends substantially in parallel and close to the door or gate that closes the cargo opening, thereby using very little space in the stowed condition.

A locking device for securing a component, such as a seating frame to a floor, for example, in an aircraft, includes a locking bolt, one end of which is provided with a locking cross-head, having two projections that engage under rail rims of a support rail in the floor. The other end of the bolt is provided with a threading that cooperates with a nut for providing the required clamping force. At least two alignment guide studs are so positioned that the locking bolt is oriented intermediate the two studs. These studs fit into respective recesses in the rail for properly locating the locking device. A carrier member of the locking device may be a separate base plate or it my be part of the seating frame structure. A slot, at the visible end of the locking bolt, is so oriented, that it indicates the locked or unlocked condition of the locking bolt. The slot also serves for inserting a tool to bring the cross-head with its projections into the locked position and to then hold the bolt for tightening or loosening the nut.

A locking device for securing a piece of freight to a loading floor, especially in an aircraft in which a floor separates an upper deck from a freight space below the deck, is equipped with an adjustable locking mechanism at each end of the locking device. With the locking mechanism, it is possible to secure the locking device to support rails in the loading floor and to also adjust the position of the locking device relative to a neighboring locking device. For this purpose, each locking mechanism is equipped, at each end of each locking device frame, with two teeth plates, one of which is forming a locking end plate at an end of the locking device frame, while the other plate is part of a clamping system relative to which the frame of the locking device can be shifted within certain limits determined by the length of an elongated hole in each locking end plate. Once the locking device is in the desired position, which is indicated by a scale and a marker, the clamping system is secured by tightening nuts on two clamping bolts. Thus, it is possible to adjust each locking device with due regard to the requirements of the piece of freight that is to be tied down.

A connector device is constructed for fixing and holding of structural components to each other, more specifically of secondary components to a primary support component. The primary support component may, for example, be a support rail with a clamping gap and the secondary components may be cross beams for carrying floor panels and the like, for example, in an aircraft. The connector device has a base plate and a carrier body extending from the base plate as well as connector flanges secured to the carrier body and preferably also to the base plate. A central bore passing through the carrier body and through the base plate receives a clamping bolt that grips with its head under rail edges forming a gap. A nut on the clamping bolt rests against a shoulder in or on the carrier body.

A locking mechanism for latching cargo pieces to a loading floor of aircraft has two latches housed in a common latch housing. The latching claws face in opposite directions. The latches rotate on journal shafts arranged parallel to the longitudinal axis of the aircraft with a lateral on-center spacing between the journal shafts. Tension springs act eccentrically to hold the latches in their extended locking position. In the locking position the latches support each other by bearing against respective stops. An inclined ramp, provided on each latch and extending in the loading direcion, cooperates with a connecting lever joint to assure that the latches can be rolled over by cargo pieces of full width, while pieces of half the full width are arrested in lateral and vertical directions when the mechanism is located between two pieces of half width closely spaced from each other.
