Patient support elements, such as pillows, are disposed on opposite sides of an examination subject lying on a supporting bed in a tomographic apparatus. The patient support bodies include one or more reference elements having known composition and characteristics which are reproduced in the image at a display unit. Standardization of the measured values is thereby achieved in a manner which is independent of the apparatus itself.

An annular radiation receiver consisting of individual detectors, is stationary, and an X-ray source is rotated along a path surrounding the detectors. The individual detectors of the radiation receiver are combined into detector groups having an equal number of individual detectors, and the detector groups are adjustable independently of one another in such a fashion that those individual detectors which are disposed in advance of the radiography subject are respectively moved out of the X-ray beam. To this end, a cam plate can be present which is rotatable synchronously with the rotation of the X-ray beam, to which levers are coupled which control the detector groups.

In an exemplary embodiment, a measuring arrangement for irradiating the examination subject from different directions has a radiation source, a radiation receiver, and a computer connected to the radiation receiver for computing the attenuation values of specific image points of the irradiated body layer from the output signals of the radiation receiver. A collimator is present with a collimator grid compartment for each detector of the radiation receiver. Every detector is comprised of a scintillator crystal and a photoelectric transducer. The scintillator crystal is mounted on the surface of the photoelectric transducer such that the transducer is disposed between the associated collimator plate and the scintillator crystal. The scintillator crystal is coated, on its surface, with the exception of the surface confronting the photoelectric transducer, with an optical seal which can be light-reflecting on its side resting against the scintillator crystal.

In an exemplary embodiment, a radiation-measuring arrangement comprises a radiation source which produces a fan-shaped beam of rays, and a radiation receiver which determines the radiation intensity behind the subject. The beam of rays executes a scanning movement in the layer plane for scanning a layer area which is greater than the layer area corresponding to the fan-shaped extent of the beam of rays. Furthermore, there is a rotating ring for the measuring arrangement for irradiating the radiography subject from different directions. The output signals of the radiation receiver are transformed by a measured value converter into a layer image. The measuring arrangement is mounted on a rotatable support which is pivotally mounted on the rotating ring and is swivelled by a drive element of a second rotating ring when the angular velocity of the second rotating ring differs from the angular velocity of the first rotating ring.

Tomographic apparatus for producing transverse layer images

In an exemplary embodiment, several sources of radiation, arranged with their focuses angularly offset by angles of equal size, having a radiation measuring arrangement with a number of radiation receivers equal to the number of radiation sources for determining the radiation intensity behind the object, having a drive device which drives a rotating frame for producing rotational movements of the radiation sources and the radiation receivers, and also having a measured value converter for transforming the signals supplied by the radiation receivers into layer images. The radiation receivers are arranged opposite the radiation sources and are also displaced by equal angles. At least one of the measuring units each comprising a radiation source and a radiation receiver is arranged offset in the direction of the rotational axis so that the measuring units simultaneously scan a plurality of layers. This distance may be adjustable.
