A process for the removal of large molecules from waste or process streams using an M41S material as an adsorbent. The process is useful for the removal of trace amounts of polynuclear aromatics from complex hydrocarbon mixtures in the vapor phase, such as reformate.

Removal of large molecules from a fluid

There is provided a catalyst comprising a heteropoly acid, such as phosphotungstic acid, supported on a mesoporous crystalline material, such as M41S. A particular form of this M41S support is designated as MCM-41. There is also provided a method for preparing this catalyst by impregnating the heteropoly acid on the support. There is also provided a process for using this catalyst to catalyze acid catalyzed reactions, such as the isomerization of paraffins and the alkylation of aromatics.

Supported heteropoly acid catalysts

Relatively long chain alkyl aromatic compounds are prepared by alkylating an alkylatable aromatic compound with a relatively long chain alkylating agent under alkylation reaction conditions in the presence of catalyst comprising zeolite MCM-49.

A material exhibiting second order nonlinear optic properties includes an organic guest material incorporated into the pores of M41S material so that a non-centrosymmetric structure is formed which will provide second harmonic generation when subjected to electromagnetic radiation of a selected frequency.

M41S materials having nonlinear optical properties

A zeolite, its method of preparation and use is disclosed. The zeolite is characterized by a silica to alumina mole ratio greater than 12 and a Constraint Index of 1 to 12. The zeolite undergoes controlled alumina extraction by treatment with, e.g., strong mineral acid or chelating agent. Removal of aluminum increases the acid activity of the zeolite.

Catalytic cracking with framework aluminum extracted zeolite

A method is disclosed for modifying an aluminosilicate-containing inorganic solid having a predetermined ion exchange capacity and containing an extractable silica by contacting, in the absence of added organic nitrogen or organic phosphorous compound and added activating metal oxide, the porous solid with liquid water at a pH of at least 6, at a temperature of up to 370.degree. C. for about 1 to 100 hours, and recovering a crystalline solid having an ion exchange capacity greater than the starting inorganic solid.

Octane and total yield improvement in catalytic cracking of petroleum fractions under cracking conditions can be obtained by adding to conventional cracking catalysts small amounts of an additive catalyst comprising a class of zeolites characterized by a silica to alumina mole ratio greater than 12 and a constraint index of 1 to 12 wherein the zeolite additive catalyst has a crystal size of between 0.2 to 10 microns.

Octane improvement with large size ZSM-5 catalytic cracking

This disclosure is concerned with the crystallization of ZSM-5 zeolites and, more particularly, is concerned with the preparation of high silica ZSM-5 zeolites having a silica-to-alumina ratio of greater than 70, up to and approaching infinity, by control of the pH so as to obtain rod-shaped crystals.

Layered silicate materials of high thermal stability and surface area which contain interspathic oxides such as silica as prepared by treating a layered silicate, with organic cation, to spread the layers apart.
