Disclosed is a device and method to aid in the monitoring of the health of an amputee's limb. The device employs a socket preferably including a liner. The liner may be constructed of an inner layer and an outer layer. The inner layer is configured to hold a plurality of sensors able to monitor the physiological health of the enclosed limb. The inner layer further employs a transmission device able to receive data from the sensors and send such data to an end user; the end user being a computer, the amputee, or a doctor. Through receipt of such data, the end user is aided in monitoring the health of the limb.

A method for quantifying activity levels of an individual within a predetermined time period including measuring a plurality of activity variables from an individual during a predetermined time period, providing a plurality of activity variables with minimum and maximum threshold values and a weighing factor, calculating a subindex for each of the activity variables as a function of the minimum and maximum threshold values and the weighing factor, and calculating a sum of the activity variables to determine an activity index of an individual. A personal activity level analysis system is configured to execute the method for obtaining an activity index used in quantifying an activity level of an individual.

A prosthetic socket casting device includes a base with a forward side from which an expandable bladder surrounding a central casting area extends. The bladder includes a plurality of inner expandable chambers that generally extend along the length of the bladder interior and peripherally surround the central casting area. The inner walls of the chambers are formed of a pliable, fluid impermeable relatively thin sheet material that is distendable upon pressurization of the chamber volumes. The bladder further includes an outer covering or wall formed of a material or construction that limits distention of the bladder outwardly. The chambers may be expanded using pressurized air or other fluid to constrict the central casting area in which a residuum having a settable prosthetic socket material thereon may be placed for molding and curing under pressure. The multiple expandable chambers create a desirable pressure distribution circumferentially around the central casting area.

A wound dressing for a body member including a sealed casing formed of a flexible, air impermeable material configured and dimensioned to accommodate and enclose a body member, a compactible filler material disposed in the interior of the casing, and a valve communicating with the interior of the casing for evacuating air therefrom, whereupon the filler material interengages to combine with the casing to form a rigid structure conforming to a body member.

The core includes super absorbent polymer particles which form a gel upon the addition of water thereto. The volume control pad includes a tube for the introduction of water into the core portion of the pad. The volume control pad provides a simple and inexpensive means for adjusting the conformance of the socket around the residual limb from an initial swollen condition to a further point in time in which the swelling has diminished.
