A passive MRI enhancing embodiment includes a plurality of resonators and increases signal-to-noise ratio of radiofrequency signals emitted by a specimen and captured by an MRI machine. The apparatus increases the magnetic field component of radiofrequency energy during signal transmission from the MRI machine to the specimen, and/or reception of signals from the specimen to the MRI machine. Use of the apparatus improves the images generated by the MRI machine, and/or reduces the time necessary for the MRI machine to capture the image. An isolator embodiment has a nonlinear resonator controllably configurable alternately into an isolation configuration and a transmission configuration, and a second resonator. The nonlinear resonator is coupled to a communications port and is substantially communicatively isolated from the second resonator when the nonlinear resonator is in the isolation configuration, and is communicatively coupled to the second resonator when the nonlinear resonator is in the transmission configuration.

Nonlinear and smart metamaterials useful to change resonance frequencies

Disclosed is a compact, multi-user magnetic tracking system. In an embodiment, a compactness is achieved by using a single coil and inertial sensors at the transmitter and magnetometers and inertial sensors at the receiver for sensing the magnetic field generated by the single coil and for determining a position and attitude of the receiver relative to the transmitter. The transmitter and receiver each include a wireless transceiver for exchanging clock synchronization data and sending transmitter attitude data to the receiver. In another embodiment, frequency or time division multiplexing is used to differentiate between multiple users of the multi-user magnetic tracking system.

Compact, multi-user, multi-level, multi-target magnetic tracking system

Disclosed is a compact 3-axis coil design for a magnetic tracking system. In an embodiment, compactness is achieved by using a 3-axis coil in the transmitter that includes a scaffold design with a side surface having a curved groove for guiding one or more windings of a z-axis coil, such that the physical geometry is not increased.

Moreover, the apparatus enhances specimen safety by substantially avoiding unwanted generation of an electric field, or an increase in the electric field component of the RF energy. Use of the apparatus improves the images generated by the MRI machine, and/or reduces the time necessary for the MRI machine to capture the image.
