Methods, systems, and devices are described for concurrently performing handoff-related measurements for neighbor cells using multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna resources. In one example, a mobile device is in communication with a serving cell. Handoff-related measurements of first wireless signals from a first neighbor cell are performed. The first wireless signals are received at first MIMO antenna resources of a device. Handoff-related measurements of second wireless signals from a second neighbor cell are performed, as well. The second wireless signals are received at second MIMO antenna resources concurrently with the first wireless signals received at the first MIMO antenna resources. The first handoff-related measurements and the second handoff-related measurements may be performed during a scan interval. A type of handoff-related measurement to perform may be determined based on a determined length of the scan interval.

Methods and apparatuses are provided for configuring resources at a device operating in a sleep mode of a wireless network. The device can use at least some of the resources for other purposes, such as scanning neighbor base stations, acquiring system parameters of the wireless network or other networks, etc., based in part on requirements of a current interval of the sleep mode. In an available interval, a serving base station may attempt to communicate with the device, and thus, the device can keep at least one receiver chain tuned to the serving base station while assigning other resources to communicate with other base stations. In an unavailable interval, the device can assign all resources for communicating with the other base stations.

Apparatus and method for configuring radio resources in sleep mode

Methods and apparatus are provided for utilizing an idle interval of a first radio access network (RAN) for performing measurements in a second RAN. For certain aspects, the first and second RANs may be a Time Division&#x2014;Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) network and a Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution (TDD-LTE) network, respectively. With efficient use of the first RAN's idle interval, increased power savings or increased system throughput may be achieved.

A user equipment may save power by reducing certain battery draining activities when the battery power remaining in the UE fails to meet a threshold value. The UE may skip inter-radio access technology measurements to conserve battery life when the battery power in the UE fails to meet the threshold. Disclosed is an apparatus, system, and method to continuously authenticate a user of a mobile device. The mobile device includes a user interface, a transceiver, a microphone, and processor. The processor continuously samples a user's voice from the microphone during a call by obtaining voice snippets on a pre-defined periodic basis or on a random basis. The processor further compares the sampled voice from the microphone to a stored voice to authenticate a valid user, wherein if the sampled voice matches the stored voice for a valid user, functionality of the mobile device continues. On the other hand, if the sampled voice does not match the stored voice for a valid user, functionality of the mobile device is locked.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure present methods and apparatus for selecting a power saving mode for a mobile station (MS) in a wireless network. The power saving mode may be selected based on the traffic that is observed at the MS in a predefined duration. Once low overall data traffic is observed, the device may enter a first low power state. If data traffic of a particular type (e.g., not for management or maintenance purposes) is not observed for a predetermined duration, the device may enter a second low power state (deeper than the first low power state).

A method of wireless communication includes receiving an uplink grant for one or more pending HARQ processes waiting to perform a retransmission. The method also includes selecting each pending HARQ process that has not received a NACK. The method further includes terminating an oldest selected HARQ process when the uplink grant is insufficient to perform the retransmission for the plurality of pending HARQ processes.

A user equipment (UE) determines an uplink timing advance of a target NodeB, such as an uplink dedicated physical channel (DPCH) transmit timing, during handover transition when the UE receives a handover command without a random access configuration. In one instance, the UE modifies a current timing advance of a source eNodeB based on a difference between an uplink timing of the source eNodeB and a downlink timing of the source eNodeB and a difference between an uplink timing of the target NodeB and a downlink timing of the target NodeB. In another instance, the UE determines the uplink timing advance of the target NodeB based on the modified current uplink timing advance of the source eNodeB.

In a mobile device for wireless communication capable of communicating on multiple radio access technologies (RATs), cell selection may be improved by reusing cell measurements for inter-RAT cell selection. This will reduce the number of cell measurements taken and improve mobile device performance. A time threshold may be used to instigate new cell measurement to prevent cell measurement data from being outdated.

Measurement in simultaneous TDD-LTE and TD-SCDMA/GSM systems

Post-hard handover processing in a Time Division&#x2014;Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) network may be improved to allow operation of High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) in hard handover. For example, uplink synchronization may be completed concurrent with HSPA to quickly resume HSPA operation in hard handovers. User Equipment (UE) may receive downlink data while completing uplink synchronization. In another example, a unique SYNC_UL code may be assigned to a UE for hard handover. The unique SYNC_UL code allows Node Bs of the TD-SCDMA network to know which UE is performing hard handover. When a Node B is receiving the unique SYNC_UL, the Node B may begin to allocate UL data grants. After receiving UL data from the UE, the Node B may resume High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA).

A method of wireless communication includes determining when all HARQ processes are associated with packages for retransmission. The method also includes determining when no new packages are pending in a UE buffer and when a received grant is insufficient for retransmission of any of the HARQ processes. The method further includes determining possible block sizes supported by each allocated time slot identified in the received grant. The method still further includes retransmitting the package of a selected HARQ process with maximum available power.
