This application discloses a submarine cable fault determining method and apparatus for realizing detecting whether a fault occurs to a submarine cable, without depending on TTE. The submarine cable fault determining method includes: receiving, by a network management system, first detection information from a first device during a first preset time, and receiving second detection information from a second device during a second preset time, where the second detection information is used to indicate whether the second device receives a first heartbeat signal from the first device through a submarine cable, and the first detection information is used to indicate whether the first device receives a second heartbeat signal from the second device through the submarine cable; and determining, by the network management system based on the first detection information and the second detection information, whether a fault occurs to the submarine cable between the first device and the second device.

Submarine cable fault determining method and apparatus

A method for realizing many to many protection switching operation of ring network including: determining information of a switch request of M:N protection switching of the ring network, a destination node of the switch request, a source node of the switch request, a flag of long or short path, a status of bridging and switching, a channel number of protected working channel, and utilization condition of protection channels; carrying the information in a signaling and transferring it on the ring network; upon receipt of the signaling, performing the M:N protection switching of the ring network by a ring network node according to the information in the signaling. Therefore, the format of APS protocol signaling provided in this invention includes the information necessary for protection switching. This invention also provides an effective transmission approach of APS protocol signaling for protection switching.

Method for realizing many to many protection switching of ring network

A ring network protection method for an optical transmission network relates to digital information transmission, and includes using the overhead byte APS/PCC in the ODUk to transmit the protection information of the APS. The method adds fields in the APS/PCC and further includes: (a) the network element in which the protection switching takes place in the OTN sends the protection switching information to other network elements through the fields set in the APS/PCC of the ODUk; and the network element which received the ODUk performs corresponding processing according to the fields carried by the APS/PCC in the ODUk and implements the protection switching for the OTN ring network.

Protection method for ring network of optical transmission network

A method for protecting a cross-ring service in an optical network includes the steps of: determining whether a configured working path crosses different rings; and in the case that the working path crosses different rings, establishing a cross-ring protection path which bypasses an off-ring node or an on-ring node of the working path on a ring, and binding the cross-ring protection path and the working path, wherein the cross-ring protection path and the working path is bound, and thus a protection can be implemented for the cross-ring service when the off-ring node or the on-ring node fails, with a reduced occupancy of bandwidth in comparison with the conventional DNI method.
