An optical device including an optical fiber having a longitudinal axis and an optical fiber core with a distal end having a distal terminating end configured to discharge a first laser energy in a first direction and a second laser energy in a second direction. The optical device also includes a fiber cap having an interior cavity and an opening to the interior cavity, where the distal end of the optical fiber core is received within the interior cavity through the opening. A cladding is included on the distal end of the optical fiber core between the optical fiber core and the fiber cap.

Surgical laser system and laser fiber

Described is a pelvic implant comprising a biodegradable conductive mesh. The mesh can include biodegradable and electrically conductive polymer, and can be stimulated with a current to generate an electric field to promote an improved tissue response following placement of the implant. The invention also describes methods and systems including the pelvic implant comprising a biodegradable conductive mesh for the treatment of pelvic floor conditions. Implants of the invention provide benefits relating to improved tissue integration into the mesh, resulting in pelvic tissue reconstruction. Tissue reconstruction and elimination of the mesh materials can lead to a better clinical outcome for the patient.

Embodiments of a surgical laser systems may include a laser source configured to generate a laser energy; a laser fiber optically coupled to the laser source to discharge laser energy; a photodetector configured to generate an output signal indicative of an intensity level of electromagnetic energy feedback produced in response to the discharge of the laser energy; and a controller configured to control the laser source based on the output signal. Embodiments of a method of controlling a surgical laser system also are disclosed, wherein laser energy is generated using a laser source and discharged through a laser fiber. Electromagnetic energy feedback produced in response to discharging the laser energy is delivered to a photodetector. An output signal from the photodetector is analyzed using a controller. The laser source is controlled in response to analyzing an output signal using the controller.

A catheter based drug delivery system for minimally invasive delivery of treatment drugs into a bladder wall. The catheter system can include a delivery tip for deforming the bladder wall before forming jets of drug solution that penetrate the bladder wall for needleless delivery of the treatment drugs directly to the diseased tissue. The delivery tip can also have graduated markings for providing visual indicators of the relative depth of the delivery tip in the bladder wall and the alignment of the formed jets with the particular layers of the bladder wall.
