A system and method for performing electrochemically-cycled oxidation on landfill leachate are provided for the removal of organic materials in landfill leachate which have an ultraviolet absorbance at 254 nm (UVA), thus pre-treating the landfill leachate for co-treatment through dilution with municipal sewage. Electrochemical oxidation is performed on the landfill leachate in a first reactor chamber to produce hypochlorite (OCl), followed by delayed application of ultraviolet radiation to produce hydroxyl radicals (OH) and reactive chlorine species to break bonds in the organic materials. A portion of this partially-treated landfill leachate is then fed to a second reactor chamber for subsequent dichlorination through ultraviolet photolysis. An equivalent volume of fresh landfill leachate is fed into the first reactor chamber to begin the cycle again, allowing for continuous treatment of a source of landfill leachate.

A method for wastewater treatment which comprises (a) separating and/or collecting urine from the wastewater for pretreatment, (b) removing phosphorus from urine using seawater, (c) optionally oxidizing nitrogen from urine, and (d) discharging the phosphorus-removed and/or nitrogen-oxidized urine to a sewer.

Method for wastewater treatment by urine separation, seawater addition, and nitrification and in-sewer denitrification

Wastewater influent is supplied to an aeration zone having a membrane module. Activated sludge is established in the aeration zone and an oxygen surplus is maintained by controlling a rate of oxygen supplied to the aeration zone. Wastewater influent is mixed with the activated sludge to form a first mixed liquid. A portion of the first mixed liquid is filtered to form a filtrate and unfiltered activated sludge. The unfiltered activated sludge is mixed with the activated sludge in the aeration zone to form the first mixed liquid. A portion of the first mixed liquid is transferred from the aeration zone to an anaerobic zone, and a second portion of first mixed liquid is mixed with activated sludge in the anaerobic zone to form a second mixed liquid. The second mixed liquid is recycled to the aerobic zone.

Process, apparatus and membrane bioreactor for wastewater treatment

Sewage treatment is performed by using Sulphur to facilitate electron flow. A first cycle uses a sulphur composition having sulphur and/or sulphur compounds to transfer electrons from organic carbon to oxygen, nitrate and nitrite, and to convert phosphorus-containing compounds to solid material, which is retained in sewage sludge. The sulphur is further used to perform denitrification of nitrogen compounds. A further cycle uses oxygen to oxidize any ammonia present to nitrate and/or nitrite.

Sulphur cycle-associated denitrifying enhanced biological phosphorus removal (SD-EBPR) utilizing sulphur compounds as electron carriers for biological nutrient removal of wastewater treatment

Biological wastewater treatment of wastewater is performed by oxidizing organic carbon with sulfur or a sulfur compound as an electron carrier, and reducing the sulfur or sulfur compound to sulfide. The sulfide is oxidized with nitrate or oxygen. If necessary, ammonia is oxidized to nitrate and then reduced to nitrogen gas. The process is effective for saline waste water facilities, as well as non-saline waste water facilities.
