A method and system for interference reduction for telecommunication systems are disclosed. The system comprises a base station control device (BCD) for configuring one or more parameters for operating one or more base stations (BSs), a first BS covering a first cell having one or more mobile terminals therein, a second BS covering a second cell neighboring to the first cell and sharing a predetermined frequency band with the first cell, wherein one or more radio frames constructed for communications between the first BS and any mobile terminal of the first cell and one or more radio frames constructed for communications between the second BS and any mobile terminal of the second cell are distinguishable by defining different channel configuration sets having one or more operation parameters, wherein the parameters includes a training sequence, a spreading code, and a channel observation window position.

Method and system for interference reduction

A method and system for reducing interference in a wireless communication network is disclosed. The wireless communication network has at least one base station using an antenna array and one or more code channels to receive or transmit one or more communication signals from or to a plurality of terminals used by one or more users. A signal received by the antenna array carries one or more training sequences and a traffic signal in a frame. After estimating a spatial signature and joint channel response model per user based on the training sequences, one or more spatial weights are found based on the estimated spatial signature and joint channel response model to maximize a signal to noise ratio. A joint detection matrix is then formed based on the estimated spatial weights, the joint channel response model, and a user code channel assignment. After code correlating a traffic signal to obtain one or more user specific multi-antenna signals, a spatial combining is performed on one or more multi-antenna signals associated with each user to generate scalar symbol estimates. Thereafter, a joint detection is done based on the scalar symbol estimates using the joint detection matrix. Similar techniques can be used for downlink communications.

Method and system for interference reduction in a wireless communication network using a joint detector

A method and system for mitigating interference in a communication system, comprising at least one base station and at least one terminal, are disclosed. The base stations and terminals communicate through a channel existing between them, and the channels include at least a first signal channel and a second signal channel. The method includes determination of channel, noise and self-interference characteristic, computation of a rate limit of the channels, computation of the rate assignment of the channels, and assignment of the computed rate assignments to the channels. In another aspect of the present invention, the method includes determination of channel characteristics; computation of a power control margin, self-interference characteristics, power control command; and assignment of the computed power control command to each communicating terminal and base station. The above power and rate control methods may operate jointly to mitigate both intra-cell and inter-cell interference in wireless communication systems.

Method and system for mitigating interference in communication system

A method and system for multi-cell interference reduction in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The present disclosure describes a new method and system for accurately detecting the characteristics of the interfering signals from relevant sources such as neighboring co-channel cells and other persistent interference sources. In order to better estimate the interfering signals, a base station designates a small inactive window in the transmit frame for a cell during which the communications between the base station and its terminals are reduced while every other communication pursues. As such, the interfering signals can be well exposed and the characteristics can be accurately detected. Based on the detected characteristics of the interfering signals, the base station can specifically design beam forming mechanism or other means to cancel or minimize the impact of such interference during regular communications.

Method and system for multi-cell interference reduction in a wireless communication system

A method and system is disclosed for reducing interference in a wireless communication system utilizing an antenna array. The antenna array uses one or more signal channels for communicating with one or more mobile terminals. First, at least one channel is assigned as an empty channel in which no desired signal is carried so as to provide a representation of all relevant interference. Since the spatial characteristics of the empty channel and the regular signal channels should be very similar, the spatial signature of the signal channels is analyzed based on the interference received on the empty channel and the desired signals received on at least one signal channel. The analyzed spatial signature is then used for reducing the interference on all signal channels.

Method and system for interference assessment and reduction in a wireless communication system

A method and system is disclosed for reducing multi-frequency signal interference in a wireless communication network. An available frequency spectrum is divided into a plurality of channels, a first wireless communication coverage unit is then segregated into a first number of geographical segments. After the segregated channels are grouped into a second number of channel blocks, each channel block is assigned to at least one of the segregated geographical segments with predetermined priorities. All the above steps are repeated for each neighboring wireless communication coverage unit of the first wireless communication coverage unit, wherein the channels in different channel blocks exhibit no higher mutual interference than the channels in the same channel block, and wherein the channel block assigned for each segregated segment of the first wireless communication coverage unit is different from the channel block assigned for the segregated segment of a second wireless communication coverage unit that immediately borders with the segregated segment of the first wireless coverage unit even if the first and second wireless communication coverage units share the same frequency spectrum.

Method and system for reducing wireless multi-cell interferences through segregated channel assignments and segregated antenna beams

A TDD antenna array S-CDMA system for increasing the capacity and quality of a wireless communications is disclosed. By simultaneous exploiting the spatial and code diversities, high performance communications between a plurality of remote terminals and a base station is achieved without sacrificing system flexibility and robustness. The time-division-duplex mode together with the inherent interference immunity of S-CDMA signals allow the spatial diversity to be exploited using simple and robust beamforming rather than demanding nulling. Measurements from an array of receiving antennas at the base station are utilized to estimate spatial signatures, timing offsets, transmission powers and other propagation parameters associated with a plurality of S-CDMA terminals. Such information is then used for system synchronization, downlink beamforming, as well as handoff management. In an examplary embodiment, the aforementioned processing is accomplished with minimum computations, thereby allowing the disclosed system to be applicable to a rapidly varying environment. Among many other inherent benefits of the present invention are large capacity and power efficiency, strong interference/fading resistance, robustness power control, and easy hand-off.

Smart antenna CDMA wireless communication system

An improved enhancer is disclosed which uses a switch matrix to increase the isolation between two antennas. For either an reverse link or forward link communication, the enhancer has a first antenna for receiving an incoming signal, and a receiver sub-system that amplifies and converts the incoming signal from the first antenna to a first predetermined frequency band. The enhancer further has a demodulator coupled to the receiver sub-system for demodulating the converted signal, and detecting timing information thereof. Also contained in the enhancer is a transmitter sub-system operable with the receiver sub-system that converts the signal from the receiver subsystem to a second predetermined frequency band and further amplifies the signal. After the signal is thus enhanced, a second antenna is used for further transmitting the amplified signal from the transmitted sub-system. The switch matrix controls connection switching among the first antenna, the second antenna, the transmitter sub-system, and the receiver sub-system, wherein the connection switching of the switch matrix is made based on the timing information detected by the demodulator and based on whether the incoming signal comes from a terminal or a base transceiver station.

A method for estimating symbol sequences from multiple transmitters which communicate with common receivers sharing the same medium is disclosed. This invention can be used in wireless communications and wireline communications such as in cable modem sys terms and digital subscriber loops to speed up joint detection of symbol sequences of multiple transmitters to achieve low error probability. For convenience, only applications of this invention to wireless communications employing multiple antennas are described herein. The requirement for matrix operations like matrix inverses increase with the logarithm of the number of symbols instead of the number of symbols as with techniques based on Cholesky decomposition.

Communication system and method for performing fast symbol estimation for multiple access disperse channels

A method and system is provided for estimating a first wireless communication channel (FWCC) transmitting a data stream from a first antenna system (FAS) to a second antenna system (SAS) in a telecommunication system, the telecommunication system having a second wireless communication channel (SWCC) for transmitting data from the MT to the antenna. First, one or more characteristics of the SWCC (SWCC Characteristics) are analyzed based on the data stream received by the antenna system from the MT. From the data stream received, an initial condition of the FWCC is also extracted. One or more characteristics of the FWCC (FWCC Characteristics) are predicted based on the SWCC Characteristics and the extracted initial condition, wherein analyzing the SWCC Characteristic and estimating the FWCC Characteristics relying on the feature that the data stream has a plurality of data segments whose Doppler frequencies are close to each other to an extent that the Doppler frequencies are deemed as the same for the purpose of analyzing the SWCC Characteristics.

In a synchronous code division multiple access (SCDMA) time division duplex (TDD) communication system, a remote terminal uses both open loop and closed loop techniques for synchronization with a base station. The timing of reception of information by tile remote terminal is performed with an open loop technique, while the timing of transmissions from the terminal is performed with a closed loop technique. Furthermore, a clock locked loop in the terminal compensates for differences between clocks of the terminal and the base station. The clock locked loop responds to signals from both the aforesaid open loop and closed loop techniques.

Method for timing recovery and compensation in time-division-duplex wireless communications

A code division multiple access time division duplex communication system having an adaptive antenna array station communicates beamformed orthogonal code channels to a remote station. The remote station determines the amplitude and phase components of the received code channels and communicates the information back to the adaptive antenna array station which uses the information plus the beamform of the received signal in an adaptive antenna array station calibration process. By varying one of the beamforms received by the remote station, sufficient data points may be gathered to facilitate accurate calibration. The calibration procedure may be performed while voice or other digital information is communicated between the remote station and the adaptive antenna array station.
