A television on a chip (TVOC) system that provides a cost effective approach for providing television functionality on a single integrated circuit chip is disclosed. A TVOC includes the functionality necessary to receive and display television signals in a variety of input and output formats. A TVOC can be used in set-top boxes for cable and satellite television, or directly within a television. All functionality provided can be provided on a single integrated circuit. TVOC includes a data transport module, an IF demodulator, a digital audio engine, an analog audio engine, a digital video engine, and an analog video engine. The TVOC also includes three sets of interfaces including output interfaces, control interfaces and ancillary interfaces. Further features and embodiments provide enhanced functionality and increased efficiencies.

Television functionality on a chip

Aspects of the invention may include a method updating a color look-up table (CLUT) for a next line of graphics before a current line of graphics has been completely read out of a graphics FIFO and assigned color pixel values. The method may include the step of formatting or arranging the CLUT into a plurality of sub-CLUTs. Each one of the sub-CLUTs may include pixel color values for each one of a plurality of pixels which may include a line of the graphics image data. Pixel color values may be read from within a first selected sub-CLUT, the first selected sub-CLUT comprising pixel color values for a first line of the graphics image data. The read pixel color value may be applied to the current first line of the graphics image data. While the read pixel color value is being applied to the current first line, pixel color values for a second selected sub-CLUT may be updated. The second selected sub-CLUT may include color pixel values for a second line of the graphics image data.

Method and apparatus for updating a color look-up table

Certain embodiments for debugging mechanism for flow control based designs may comprise a debugging interface module between a transmitter and a receiver, all integrated on a chip. At least one debugging entity, which may be on the chip or off the chip, may indicate to the debugging interface module to initiate debug mode via command signals. In debug mode, the control signals between the transmitter and the receiver may be intercepted by the debugging interface module to halt normal data flow from the transmitter to the receiver. The debugging entity may then transmit data to the receiver, while the transmitter is disabled, or receive data transmitted by the transmitter, while the receiver is disabled. When the debugging entity indicates to the debugging interface module to end debug mode, normal data flow may continue, and the debugging interface module may appear transparent to the data flow.

Method and system for debugging flow control based designs

Certain embodiments of the invention may be found in a method and system for handling deadlock conditions in a data processing system. Aspects of the method may comprise identifying a potential deadlock state in a distribute and merge data processing system. An actual deadlock state may be detected once the potential deadlock state is identified. The detected actual deadlock state may be indicated by generating a signal. The method may comprise initiating recovery from deadlock conditions by generating at least one signal that indicates when data is accepted in response to the indication of the actual deadlock state.
