Methods are provided for upgrading of pyrolysis carbon in order to allow for conversion of the pyrolysis carbon into higher value products. Instead of attempting to convert methane into a high value carbon product (such as carbon nanotubes) and Hin a single reaction step, pyrolysis conditions can be used to form Hand pyrolysis carbon. The pyrolysis carbon can then be treated in order to convert the pyrolysis carbon (H to C atomic ratio of less than 0.20) into a product with a higher hydrogen content (H to C atomic ratio of 0.25-0.9 or 2.0-7.0 wt % H). The treatment can correspond to exposing the pyrolysis carbon with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst, exposing the pyrolysis carbon to conditions for alkylation, or a sequential combination thereof. This can convert the pyrolysis carbon into heavy hydrocarbon products that are resin-like solids at room temperature.

Upgrading pyrolysis carbon

Isomerization of normal paraffins to form branched paraffins may be complicated by significant cracking of Cparaffins under isomerization reaction conditions. This issue may complicate upgrading of hydrocarbon feeds having significant quantities of heavier normal paraffins. Cracking selectivity may be decreased by combining one or more naphthenic compounds with a feed mixture comprising at least one Cnormal paraffin and/or by utilizing tungstated zirconium catalysts having decreased tungsten loading. Further, Cand Cnormal paraffins may undergo isomerization in the presence of Cnormal paraffins. Methods for isomerizing normal paraffins may comprise: providing a feed mixture comprising at least C-Cnormal paraffins and lacking normal paraffins larger than C; and contacting the feed mixture with a bifunctional mixed metal oxide catalyst under isomerization reaction conditions effective to form a product mixture comprising one or more branched paraffins formed from each of the C-Cnormal paraffins.

Isomerization of normal paraffins

A system and methods for manufacturing a base oil stock from a light hydrocarbon stream are provided. An example method includes cracking a light hydrocarbon stream to form an impure olefinic stream, separating water from the impure olefinic stream, and oligomerizing the impure olefinic stream to form a raw oligomer stream. A light olefinic stream from the raw oligomer stream and linear alpha olefins are recovered from the light olefinic stream. A heavy olefinic stream is distilled from the raw oligomer stream and hydro-processed to form a hydro-processed stream. They hydro-processed stream is distilled to form the base oil stock.

Manufacturing hydrocarbons

A systems and method for manufacturing a base stock from an ethanol stream are described herein. An example method includes dehydrating an ethanol stream to form an impure ethylene mixture, recovering an ethylene stream from the impure ethylene mixture, and oligomerizing the ethylene stream to form a raw oligomer stream. A heavy olefinic stream is distilled from the raw oligomer stream. The heavy olefinic stream is hydro-processed to form a hydro-processed stream, and the hydro-processed stream is distilled to form the base stock.

Manufacturing a base stock from ethanol

Systems and a method for manufacturing a base stock from a light gas stream are provided. An example method includes oxidizing the light gas stream to form a raw ethylene stream. Water is removed from the raw ethylene stream, and carbon monoxide in the raw ethylene stream is oxidized. Carbon dioxide is separated from the raw ethylene stream, and the raw ethylene stream is oligomerized to form a raw oligomer stream. A light olefinic stream is distilled from the raw oligomer stream and a light alpha olefin is recovered from the light olefinic stream. A heavy olefinic stream is distilled from the raw oligomer stream. The heavy olefinic stream is hydro-processed to form a hydro-processed stream. the hydro-processed stream is distilled to form the base stock.

An example method includes cracking the hydrocarbon stream to form a raw product stream, separating an ethylene stream from the raw product stream, and oligomerizing the ethylene stream to form a raw oligomer stream. A Light olefinic stream is distilled from the raw oligomer stream and oligomerized the light olefinic stream with the ethylene stream. A heavy olefinic stream is distilled from the raw oligomer stream. The heavy olefinic stream is to form a hydro-processed and distilled to form the base stock.

A process for converting a feedstock comprising an organic compound to a conversion product by contacting said feedstock at organic compound conversion conditions with a catalyst comprising a mordenite zeolite having a mesoporous surface area of greater than 30 m/g and an average primary crystal size as measured by TEM of less than 80 nm.

Process for preparing a molecular sieve

In a process for upgrading an ethane-containing Cparaffin stream, the paraffin stream is contacted with an oxygen containing gas in the presence of a selective oxidation catalyst under conditions to selectively oxidize at least part of the ethane in the paraffin stream and produce a first product stream comprising ethylene. At least part of the first product stream is then with an oligomerization catalyst under conditions to oligomerize at least part of the ethylene and produce a second product stream comprising gasoline and/or distillate boiling range hydrocarbons. Gasoline and/or distillate boiling range hydrocarbons are then recovered from the second product stream and at least a part of any residual Cparaffin stream is recycled to the selective oxidation step.

Upgrading ethane-containing light paraffins streams

A process for upgrading an ethane-containing Cparaffin stream comprises contacting the paraffin stream with an oxygen containing gas in the presence of a selective oxidation catalyst under conditions to selectively oxidize at least part of the ethane in the paraffin stream and produce a first product stream comprising ethylene. At least part of the first product stream may then be contacted with an isoparaffin-containing feed in the presence of a solid alkylation catalyst and under conditions to alkylate at least part of the isoparaffin with at least part of the ethylene and produce a second product stream comprising Calkylate. Alternatively, at least part of the ethylene in the first product stream may be dimerized before the alkylation step.

Production of high octane hydrocarbon from light alkane feed using oxidation and acid catalysis chemistry

Systems and methods are provided for forming alkylate from an isoparaffin-containing feed. Olefins for the alkylation reaction can be generated from a portion of the isoparaffin-containing feed. This can be achieved, for example, by using selective oxidation to convert a portion of isoparaffins into alcohol, such as conversion of isobutane to t-butyl alcohol. The alcohol can then be converted to an alkene, such as conversion of t-butyl alcohol to isobutene, in the alkylation reaction environment in the presence of a solid acid catalyst. The solid acid catalyst can then facilitate alkylation of isoparaffin using the in-situ formed alkenes. A catalyst having an MWW framework is an example of a suitable solid acid catalyst.

Production of alkylate from light alkanes

The present invention provides a mordenite zeolite having a mesopore surface area of greater than 30 m/g and an average primary crystal size as measured by TEM of less than 80 nm, and methods of making the mordenite zeolite.
