Apparatus and methods are provided for sidelink relay-based UE-to-network communication. The disclosure describes the relay UE performing delayed relay forwarding upon determining the remote UE is in the DRX cycle based on the PC5 configuration. The relay UE buffers the relay traffic and/or sends a suspending indication to the base station to request the base station to suspend the relay traffic to the remote UE. The disclosure describes the relay UE monitoring paging occasions configured for itself and receives paging message from the network intended for the remote UE in one non-connected RRC state. The relay UE sends a PC5 paging message to the remote UE that is in the non-connected RRC state through the established SL based on the received paging message. The disclosure describes the network storing the SL association between the relay UE and the remote UE to the network.

Methods and apparatus of sidelink relay based data communication

Apparatus and methods are provided for L2-based sidelink relay for packet routing. In novel aspect, the L2-based sidelink relay for packet routing is configured based on interest indications from one or more candidate UEs and corresponding UE report from candidate UEs. In one embodiment, the UE report is received from an Uu interface RRC message or an RRC message forwarded through an Xn interface from a serving gNB. The L2 relay configuration includes one or more elements comprising an adaptation layer address of nodes in the relay path, and a packet routing table. The adaption layer is between an RRC layer and a PDCP layer. The packet routing table includes one or more elements including adaptation layer addresses, a relay path ID, and a next hop address. In one embodiment, the relay path includes one or more relay hops.

Packet routing for layer-2-based sidelink relay

A method of UE prioritizing and multiplexing simultaneous sidelink relay data for Logical Channel Prioritization (LCP) procedure in new radio (NR) system is proposed. UE can provide traffic prioritization based on traffic category when UE has simultaneous traffic from more than one traffic categories to transmit. The sidelink relay traffic prioritization is then used for transmission interface and resource selection, and data multiplexing prioritization on the basis of sidelink relay architecture. Specifically, a method on how to perform the corresponding logical channel prioritization (LCP) operation for MAC PDU multiplexing is provided. LCP restriction is considered to determine which classes of traffic can be multiplexed into the same MAC PDU together. Priority of multiplexing is also applied to determine the order and the amount of traffic to be included in the MAC PDU.

Method of logical channel prioritization to support sidelink relay

A method of connection establishment through a relay UE for a remote UE is proposed. The remote and relay UEs first perform discovery and establish a PC5 radio resource control (PC5-RRC) connection. Upon receiving a request from the remote UE, the relay UE and a serving gNB perform a relaying procedure for establishment of the remote UE's signalling radio bearer 1 (SRB1). The relay UE configures PC5 RLC channels for relaying of SRB1 towards the remote UE. The remote UE then enters an RRC_CONNECTED state. The remote UE and gNB establish security. The gNB configures additional data radio bearers (DRBs) for relaying. The relay UE configures PC5 RLC channels for relaying of the additional DRBs towards the remote UE. The DRBs can then be used for exchange of data between the remote UE and the gNB.

Connection establishment for layer 2 UE-to-network relay

A method executed by a relay UE is provided. The relay UE receives an incoming SideLink (SL) transmission from the first remote UE on the first RLC channel, wherein the first RLC channel is associated with an SL Radio Bearer (SLRB) ID, in which the incoming SL transmission includes the first identifier, which includes the SLRB ID and a first UE ID. The relay UE sends an outgoing SL transmission to a second remote UE on a second RLC channel according to the SLRB ID and the first UE ID.

Apparatuses and methods for SideLink (SL) communication in a User Equipment (UE)-to-UE relaying architecture

Mechanism of relay UE discovery and relay UE selection and reselection for remote UE data transmission with a serving base station via relay UE is proposed. A method operable for relay UE selection and reselection of remote UE is provided. The UE considers additional criteria such as relay load other than purely radio signal quality (e.g., RSRP) criteria. The relay load can serve different purpose for relay UE and remote UE. The relay load can be the criteria for UE to become a relay UE or not. It can be the criteria for a remote UE to select another UE as its relay UE.

Relay selection and reselection

A User Equipment (UE) including a wireless transceiver and a controller is provided. The wireless transceiver performs wireless transmission and reception to and from one or more peer UEs. The controller determines a Sidelink (SL) Discontinuous Reception (DRX) configuration set, and applies the SL DRX configuration set to enable a DRX operation for SL communications with the peer UEs via the wireless transceiver; wherein the SL DRX configuration set is determined based on one of the following: one or more types of one or more SL services which the UE is participating with the peer UEs; one or more SL DRX configurations received from the peer UEs; and control information received from a Base Station (BS).

Apparatuses and methods for discontinuous reception (DRX) support in sidelink communication

A method executed by a relay UE is provided. The relay UE establishes a first Radio Link Control (RLC) channel between a first remote UE and the relay UE, in which the first RLC channel is associated with a first end-to-end identifier. The relay UE establishes a second RLC channel between a second remote UE and the relay UE, in which the second RLC channel is associated with the first end-to-end identifier or a second end-to-end identifier. The relay UE receives an incoming SideLink (SL) transmission from the first remote UE on the first RLC channel, in which the incoming SL transmission includes the first end-to-end identifier. The relay UE sends an outgoing SL transmission to the second remote UE on the second RLC channel, in which the outgoing SL transmission includes one of the first end-to-end identifier and the second end-to-end identifier.

Apparatuses and methods for sidelink (SL) communication in a user equipment (UE)-to-UE relaying architecture

A method includes receiving an UL prioritization threshold and a SL prioritization threshold at a user equipment (UE), and determining whether an UL transmission overlaps a SL transmission in time domain. When the UL transmission overlaps the SL transmission in time domain, which of the UL transmission and the SL transmission is to be prioritized is determined based on the UL prioritization threshold and the SL prioritization threshold, and logical channel (LCH) priorities associated with the UL transmission and the SL transmission. The method can further includes performing one of the UL transmission and the SL transmission that is prioritized.

Transmission prioritization mechanism for determining between sidelink transmissions and uplink transmissions in wireless communication system

Solutions are proposed to handle PRACH resource and beam selection under the following scenarios. First, a CFRA procedure is initiated, but all beams associated with the CFRA resource is below a RSRP threshold and CBRA fallback is not supported. UE continues to perform CFRA by selecting any downlink beam associated with dedicated PRACH resource, and then select dedicated PRACH resource associated with the selected downlink beam; second, a CFRA procedure is initiated but the active UL BWP is not paired with the active DL BWP. Upon CFRA initiation, UE uses current active UL and DL BWP to perform CFRA, and switches to another BWP pair upon all beams associated with the CFRA resource are below a RSRP threshold; third, a CBRA procedure is initiated but the active UL BWP is not configured with PRACH resource. UE selects a special UL/DL BWP to perform the CBRA procedure.

Beam selection and resource allocation for beam-formed random access procedure

A method to prioritize sidelink logical channel (SL LCH) during destination UE selection for sidelink Logical Channel Prioritization (LCP) procedure in NR sidelink communication is proposed to avoid resource starvation. A TX UE prioritizes an RX UE having at least one SL LCH that has not satisfied a required minimum bit rate during destination UE selection when allocating SL resource to a new MAC PDU for SL transmission. The TX UE maintains a value Bj for each SL LCH j, where Bj&#x3e;0 indicates that the logical channel has not met the requirement of prioritized bit rate. If at least one destination UE has SL LCH with data available for transmission and with Bj&#x3e;0, then the selected destination UE is the one has the highest-priority SL LCH with data available for transmission and with Bj&#x3e;0.

Enhancement of logical channel prioritization for sidelink transmission

Apparatus and methods are provided for sidelink measurement configuration and report for open-loop sidelink power control. In one embodiment, the SL measurement report configuration configures a first measurement report, and wherein the reference threshold is an absolute reference threshold. In another embodiment, the reference threshold is an SL measurement result in an SL measurement report previously sent to the transmitting UE. In some embodiments, the reporting condition is the layer-3 (L3) filtered SL RSRP measurement being the offset higher or lower than the reference threshold. In yet another embodiment, the reporting condition is an explicit request of measurement report from the transmitting UE. In one embodiment, the SL measurement report includes one or more elements comprising a Boolean indicator, a delta value between the L3 filtered SL RSRP measurement and the reference threshold, and an absolute value of the L3 filtered SL RSRP measurement.

Measurement configuration and report for sidelink open-loop power control

A method of joint restriction on resource selection and data multiplexing over sidelink transmission is proposed. The joint restriction method includes four steps of A, B, C, D, and the order of the steps can be different depending on different scenarios. In step A, UE selects a resource pool that satisfies certain configuration. In step B, UE determines resource for transport block (TB) transmission. In step C, UE performs logical channel prioritization (LCP) procedure. In step D, UE provides information of the TB to receiver UE(s) if needed. Under this generic model, the selecting of resource and data are jointly considered to satisfy both resource restriction and data QoS requirements.

Method to handle joint restriction of transmission resource and data QoS requirement

Aspects of the disclosure provide an electronic device including a transceiver and processing circuitry. The transceiver can be configured to wirelessly receive at least one signal from a network including a first cell. The at least one signal can indicate a link quality of a wireless link formed between the electronic device and the base station in a first cell. The processing circuitry can be configured to determine whether beam failure occurs on the first cell based on at least one signal quality of the at least one signal. When the beam failure is determined to occur on the first cell, the processing circuitry can be configured to report information of the first cell to the network indicating the beam failure on the first cell.

Electronic device and method for beam failure recovery

An apparatus detects a beam failure of a serving cell. In response, the apparatus triggers a beam failure recovery request (BFRQ). The BFRQ remains pending until cancelled. In triggering the BFRQ the apparatus generates a BFRQ medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) and transmits the BFRQ MAC CE to a wireless network using a resource according to an uplink (UL) grant.
