A method for reducing interference in a MIMO MultiCode MC-CDMA system is disclosed wherein a BLAST algorithm is implemented over one block of correlation reception data yand estimation channel values H of the correlation reception data yto generate a group of temporary decision symbols C. One symbol, C, is selected having a maximum SNR value from the temporary decision symbols. The temporary decision symbols, C, other than the selected symbol, C, are combined with the estimated channel value H to recover a group of temporary interference signals over the selected symbol, C. The interference signals are subtracted from the correlation reception signal vector, yto generate a corrected reception signal vector y, and a more accurate decision symbol Cis identified from the corrected reception signal vector yand original estimation channel values. A system and method for random access channel (RACH) capture, where user equipment (UE) transmits a series of time-spaced access preambles each having an increasing power level to Node B and terminates access preamble transmission in response to an acquisition indicator (AI) signal returned from Node B and transmits its RACH message part. A collision detection preamble (CDP) is sent immediately after the message or embedded with the message. One of the terminals sends a rate request to the base station. The rate request requests that the data rate on the wireless uplink for the terminal be changed. In response to the rate request, the base station sends a rate grant to the terminal. The rate grant indicates whether or not the terminal may change the data rate on the wireless uplink.
