An upper receiver for a firearm is provided. The upper receiver having: a hand guard section integrally formed with the upper receiver; a rail section integrally formed with the hand guard section, wherein the rail section is formed of a first material and the hand guard section is formed of a second material, wherein the second material is molded about the first material.

Firearm having a removable hand guard

A semi-automatic or automatic rifle is provided. The rifle having: an upper hand guard and a lower hand guard each removably secured to an upper receiver of the rifle, wherein the upper hand guard has an integral upper rail that extends along an upper surface of the upper hand guard and the upper hand guard has a rear tab that is received within a mating slot of the upper receiver when the upper hand guard is secured to the upper receiver and wherein the upper rail of the upper hand guard is contiguous with a receiver rail when the upper hand guard is secured to the upper receiver; a cap configured to releasably engage a forward end of the upper hand guard and a forward end of the lower hand guard; and wherein the upper hand guard and the lower hand guard are not directly secured to a barrel of the rifle such that the upper hand guard and the lower hand guard float in position relative to the barrel of the rifle.

An automatic or semi-automatic firearm having an indirect gas operating system, the firearm having: a receiver; a bolt assembly slidably received within the receiver; a barrel having a bore, the barrel coupled to the receiver; a gas block mounted to the barrel, the gas block having a cylinder in fluid communication with the bore; a rod coupled to the cylinder and having a striking rod; wherein gas discharged from a fired cartridge displaces the rod and causes the striking rod to strike a striking surface of the bolt assembly, wherein the gas repositions the bolt assembly in bore.

Firearm having an indirect gas operating system

A system for removably securing a hand guard to a semi-automatic or automatic rifle is provided. The system having: a first locking assembly for removably coupling a rear end of the hand guard to an upper receiver of the rifle; a second locking assembly for removably coupling a forward end of the hand guard to the rifle; and wherein the first locking assembly and the second locking assembly axially and rotationally position the hand guard with respect to the rifle and wherein the hand guard is not directly secured to a barrel of the rifle.

A method of making a hand guard for a semi-automatic or automatic rifle is provided. The method including the steps of: forming a first portion of the hand guard from a first material; inserting the formed first portion into a mold; and molding a second portion of the hand guard about the first portion, the second portion being a second material, the second material being different from the first material, wherein a first section of the first portion is completely encased by the second portion and a second section of the first portion is not encased by the second portion.

A semi-automatic or automatic rifle is provided. The rifle has a receiver having a receiver frame, a barrel removably connected to the receiver frame, and an end cap coupled to the barrel. A removable hand guard section is provided extending over and generally surrounding the barrel, the removable hand guard section removably connected to the receiver. The removable hand guard section has a locating feature adapted to engage with the end cap and locate the hand guard relative to the end cap. The removable hand guard section has a mounting rail portion and a body portion, the mounting rail portion molded into the body portion. The barrel has a locking collar adapted to removably position and lock the removable hand guard section relative to the receiver frame and the barrel. The removable hand guard floats in position relative to the barrel.

An automatic or semiautomatic rifle having a receiver and a bolt carrier movably coupled to the receiver. An action system is connected to the bolt carrier for cycling the bolt carrier in the receiver. A receiver extension is connected to the receiver, at least part of the action system extending into the receiver extension. A folding stock is connected to the receiver. The receiver extension is located within the folding stock.

Automatic or semiautomatic rifle with folding stock

A black rifle configuration automatic or semi-automatic firearm having an indirect gas operating system. The firearm has a black rifle configuration receiver assembly having a bolt assembly enclosed within. The bolt assembly having a striking surface and a barrel assembly having a bore, the barrel assembly being coupled to the receiver assembly. A gas block is fitted to the barrel assembly, the gas block having a front folding sight. A rod assembly has a striking rod. Gas discharged from a fired cartridge displaces the piston and causes the striking rod displace the bolt assembly.

An M4 type automatic or semi-automatic firearm having an indirect gas operating system. A bolt assembly has a striking surface. The bolt assembly is enclosed within an M4 type receiver assembly. A barrel assembly having a bore is coupled to the receiver assembly. A gas block having a cylinder is fitted to the barrel assembly with the cylinder in communication with the bore. A piston and rod assembly has a piston and a striking rod, with the piston fitted to the cylinder. Gas discharged from a fired cartridge displaces the piston and causes the striking rod to strike the striking surface displacing the bolt assembly.
