Techniques are provided which reduce common mode noise voltage in single ended signal transmission. The common mode noise voltage is generated by a noise generating current flowing through an inductance of a return path between a transmitting circuit and a receiving circuit. The common mode noise voltage may be diminished by generating a noise cancelling current which flows through the inductance in the return path in a direction opposite to the flow of the noise generating current. As a result, a magnitude of noise current flowing through the inductance is diminished. Further the transmitting circuit and receiving circuit are isolated, by using buffering, from ground plane(s) of the transmitting and/or the receiving circuits so that such circuits are substantially unaffected by this common mode noise suppression technique.

Apparatus and method for reducing noise in a system using single ended signal transmission

A system comprising a fiber optic gyroscope and a mixed signal application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) connected to the gyroscope is provided. The mixed signal ASIC comprises a digital logic unit, a relative intensity noise (RIN) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) coupled to the digital logic unit and configurable to receive a signal from a RIN detector, and a rate ADC coupled to the digital logic unit and configurable to receive a signal from a rate detector. The mixed signal ASIC also includes a light source digital-to-analog converter (DAC) coupled to the digital logic unit, and a thermo-electric cooler DAC coupled to the digital logic unit, both of which are configurable to send control signals to a light source of the gyroscope. The mixed signal ASIC further includes an integrated optical chip DAC, an eigen-frequency servo DAC, and a heater servo DAC, all of which are coupled to the digital logic unit.

Fiber optic gyroscope mixed signal application specific integrated circuit

A fiber optic gyroscope includes a light source, an optical coupler in optical communication with the light source, with the optical coupler configured to receive an optical signal from the light source, an optical modulator in optical communication with the optical coupler, and a fiber optic coil in optical communication with the optical modulator. A demodulator is configured to receive an optical signal from the optical coupler and convert the optical signal to an electrical signal. A loop closure electronics module is configured to receive the electrical signal from the demodulator. A bias modulator is responsive to an output from the loop closure electronics module and is configured to output a modulation signal to the optical modulator. A first crosstalk filter network is operatively coupled to the demodulator, and a second crosstalk filter network is operatively coupled to the bias modulator.

System to reduce gyroscopic errors with limited power supply quality in a fiber optic gyroscope

One embodiment is directed to a power supply for a fiber optic gyroscope that comprises at least one main power supply, at least one demodulator local power supply to operatively couple the main power supply to a demodulator included in the fiber optic gyroscope, and at least one modulator local power supply to operatively couple the main power supply to a bias modulator included in the fiber optic gyroscope. The demodulator local power supply comprises a first current source to source current to the demodulator and a first shunt regulator coupled across a load associated with the demodulator. The modulator local power supply comprises a second current source to source current to the bias modulator and a second shunt regulator coupled across a load associated with the bias modulator.

Methods and system are provided for driving light through a sensing coil of an optical gyro. The system includes a photodetection circuit having an input for receiving an optical output from the sensing coil and having an output, and a signal processing circuit having an input coupled to the output of the photodetection circuit and having an output for supplying an output signal to modulate the sensing coil. The photodetection system produces a digital signal from the optical output. The signal processing circuit produces a feedback signal from the digital signal and adds a random number to the feedback signal to produce the output signal.

High resolution IOC drive and method for driving fiber optic gyroscopes

Systems and methods for improving efficiency of a data converter. An example method generates a noise signal, alters the spectrum of the noise signal based on operation of an associated data converter, and supplies the altered spectrum noise signal to the associated data converter. The data converter is a digital-to-analog converter or an analog-to-digital converter. The altered spectrum noise signal is notched at frequencies of interest. The spectrum is altered by sending a signal generated by a random number generator to a delay device and adding the output of the delay device from the output of the random number generator. Also, the spectrum is altered by seeding first and second identical random number generators, delaying the operation of the first random number generator, and adding the output of the delayed first random number generator from the second random number generator.

Systems and methods for improving data converters

A trans-impedance amplifier with gain control for a fiber optic rotation rate sensor. A variable gain amplifier having gain control based on keeping the amplifier output above a certain level. The gain control approach allows the amplifier bandwidth to remain constant. A gain control circuit includes a control device connected to ground and the amplifier feedback network. The input to the gain control circuit may be the amplifier output that has been filtered, or the input could be from an external circuit or microcontroller.
