Millimeter wave (mmWave) technology, apparatuses, and methods that relate to transceivers, receivers, and antenna structures for wireless communications are described. The various aspects include co-located millimeter wave (mmWave) and near-field communication (NFC) antennas, scalable phased array radio transceiver architecture (SPARTA), phased array distributed communication system with MIMO support and phase noise synchronization over a single coax cable, communicating RF signals over cable (RFoC) in a distributed phased array communication system, clock noise leakage reduction, IF-to-RF companion chip for backwards and forwards compatibility and modularity, on-package matching networks, 5G scalable receiver (Rx) architecture, among others.

Wireless communication technology, apparatuses, and methods

In a communication device and corresponding methods, a hierarchical, reduced power, beam search process includes a hierarchical activation of the radio frequency frontend (RFFE), transceiver, and baseband integrated circuit (BBIC) for a beam searching operations. For example, a first signal metric measurements can be performed to determine signal information. An operating mode can be determined based on the signal information. In a first operating mode, one or more second signal metric measurements can be performed for a subset of beamforming configurations of the wireless communication device to determine beamforming information. In a second operating mode, one or more third signal metric measurements can be performed on the beamforming configurations to determine the beamforming information.

Communication scanning method and system

Techniques are provided for reducing or mitigating phase noise of a digital phase lock loop or the system depending on the digital phase lock loop. In an example, a multiple-mode digital phase lock loop can include a digital phase lock loop (DPLL), multiple frequency scalers configured to receive a reference clock, and a multiplexer configured to receive a mode command signal and to couple an output of one of the multiple frequency scalers to an input of the DPLL in response to a state of the mode command signal.

Techniques for addressing phase noise and phase lock loop performance

A wireless communication device can include an antenna configured to sense a radio frequency (RF) signal. The wireless communication device can include signal estimation circuitry configured to generate estimates of amplitude and frequency for unmodulated spurs within the RF signal. The wireless communication device can further include multi-tone generator circuitry coupled to the signal estimation circuitry and configured to generate a composite spur cancellation signal based on the estimates of amplitude and frequency for unmodulated spurs within the RF signal. The wireless communication device can further include adder circuitry configured to subtract the spur cancellation signal from the RF signal to generate a spur cancelled signal.

Noise reduction and spur and distortion cancellation techniques

Techniques to fabricate an RF filter using 3 dimensional island integration are described. A donor wafer assembly may have a substrate with a first and second side. A first side of a resonator layer, which may include a plurality of resonator circuits, may be coupled to the first side of the substrate. A weak adhesive layer may be coupled to the second side of the resonator layer, followed by a low-temperature oxide layer and a carrier wafer. A cavity in the first side of the resonator layer may expose an electrode of the first resonator circuit. An RF assembly may have an RF wafer having a first and a second side, where the first side may have an oxide mesa coupled to an oxide layer. A first resonator circuit may be then coupled to the oxide mesa of the first side of the RF wafer.

Techniques for integrating three-dimensional islands for radio frequency (RF) circuits

Embodiments of front-end module (FEM) circuitry and a communication device are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the FEM circuitry may be configured to provide uplink (UL) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) signals and/or UL carrier aggregation (CA) signals for transmission by the communication device. The FEM circuitry may comprise a hybrid coupler to generate a first antenna transmit signal and a second antenna transmit signal. The FEM circuitry may further comprise one or more tunable phase shifters. In some embodiments, the phase shifters may phase-shift a first radio frequency (RF) signal and a second RF signal according to a 90 degree phase difference to generate the hybrid coupler input signals. Accordingly, the antenna transmit signals may be transmitted according to the UL-MIMO configuration.

Apparatus for uplink multi-antenna communication based on a hybrid coupler and a tunable phase shifter

An apparatus for interference cancellation in wireless communication systems configured for reception, comprises a receive signal path configured to convey an overall receive (Rx) signal comprising an Rx signal and a residual transmit (Tx) signal, from an antenna port to an Rx input port of a transceiver, and at least one cancellation path configured to receive a leakage Tx signal from the antenna port. Further, the apparatus comprises a cancellation unit configured to apply a cancellation signal to the overall Rx signal in the receive signal path and a compensation unit configured to generate the cancellation signal by modifying the leakage Tx signal in the cancellation path, based on a compensation control signal. In addition, the apparatus comprises a feedback receiver unit configured to generate the compensation control signal based on the residual Tx signal in the overall Rx signal and the cancellation signal.

Transceiver device and a method for generating a compensation signal

An apparatus for interference cancellation in a wireless communication system, includes a cancellation unit configured to receive a transmit (Tx) signal from an output port of a power amplifier and a receive (Rx) signal from an antenna, and generate a cancellation of a primary portion of the Tx signal from the Rx signal at an output thereof, leaving a residual portion as a residual Tx signal, wherein the output of the cancellation unit is coupled to an Rx input port of a transceiver. The apparatus further includes a compensation control unit configured to modify one or more signals within the cancellation unit, based on the residual Tx signal at the output of the cancellation unit.

Architecture and control of hybrid coupler based analog self-interference cancellation

A mobile device that operates in a wireless communication network is disclosed. The mobile device includes a transceiver that uses a first wireless communication technology, which can be Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. The mobile device also includes a modem that coupled to the transceiver through a standard interface and uses a second wireless communication technology, which can be CDMA. The modem processes the received signal from the transceiver and processes a transmit signal for the transceiver. A first receiver first processing circuit has a matching filter to compensate for and resampling the received signal from the receiver so that that the received signal from the transceiver is compatible with the modem. A transmitter processing has a filter for resampling and adjusting a processed transmit signal for the transmitter.

Apparatus and method of using CDMA architecture for 3GPP2 compliant transceivers

A method and apparatus mitigates spurious transmissions. An offset local oscillator signal is generated that is at a frequency that is offset from a nominal transmit channel carrier frequency by a spurious mitigation offset. An information signal is generated that comprises a series of modulation symbols and has a transmission bandwidth at baseband. A configured offset information signal is generated from the information signal, wherein the spectrum of the configured offset information signal is offset from DC by a channel configuration offset, and is further offset by a negative of the spurious mitigation offset. The offset local oscillator signal and the configured offset information signal are combined using a mixing technique. The spurious mitigation offset is zero when a spurious condition does not exist and is non-zero when the spurious condition does exist.

Method for maintaining timing across discontinuous activity gaps for a non-real time data interface

A method and apparatus for synchronizing a system clock with a serving cell () associated with a first radio access technology and monitoring an adjacent cell () associated with a second radio access technology is provided. A communication device () includes a first synchronization device () capable of synchronization with the serving cell () and a second synchronization device () capable of independently synchronizing with the adjacent cell (). The first synchronization device () and second synchronization device () include independent frequency correction modules (). Thus, the second frequency synchronization device () may be corrected per the adjacent cell () while the first synchronization device () remains synchronized with the serving cell (). Thus, the same corrected system clock may be used between two radio access technologies.

Method and apparatus for automatic frequency correction in a multimode device

A multimode wireless communication device capable of communicating pursuant to first and second communication protocols, including a method wherein a determination is made () as to whether a harmonic generated during transmission in one protocol interferes with reception in another protocol, and wherein transmission is suspended while receiving only if a harmonic generated during transmission interferes with reception. In some embodiments, the transmitter is temporarily operated in compressed mode to enable the suspension.

Multi-mode wireless communication device and method

A multi-receiver wireless communication device includes a transmitter, a transmit oscillator communicatively coupled to the transmitter, a receive oscillator communicatively coupled to a first receiver and second receiver, and a switching assembly having a first state in which the receive oscillator is coupled to the first and second receivers and a second state in which the receive oscillator is de-coupled from the second receiver and the transmit oscillator is coupled to the second receiver.
