A wearable device and system has been developed to help users learn the practices of diaphragmatic breathing and breathing patterns to improve running and walking performance. The wearable has a breathing sensor (breathe in-breathe out) and a movement sensor used to identify foot strikes. A processor computes the number of foot strikes occurring while inhaling and the number of foot strikes occurring while exhaling to report breathing patterns as a function of time. The algorithms may be modified to teach breathing patterns to athletes in other sports and deep breathing for numerous movement and minimal movement applications.

System and method for identifying breathing patterns during running and other applications

A system includes companion device that has movement sensors and a separate wearable device that has core contraction sensors. The companion device can be coupled to moving objects such as exercise equipment. Signals from the companion device and wearable device sensors are transmitted to a processor which analyzes the object movement signals and determines when a qualifying movement is performed which benefits from core contraction. Signals from the core contraction sensors are also transmitted to the processor and are used to determine if the core is contracted during the qualifying movement. If the core is contracted during the qualifying movement, the movement is a protected qualifying movement. However, if the core is not contracted during the qualifying movement the movement is an unprotected qualifying movement. The system can inform the user when unprotected qualifying movements are performed.

Companion device to support qualifying movement identification

A wearable device has a core contraction sensor. Signals from the core contraction sensor are transmitted to a processor which analyzes the core contraction signals and determines if the user's core is contracted or relaxed. The processor can cause a computing device to output a sequence of tones in response to a core contraction signal. The sequence of tones can correspond to a song which can be played by performing a plurality of core contractions with durations that correspond to a duration of the notes in the song. Alternatively, the core muscles can be contracted to correspond to music heard by the user. The processor can output a score based upon the matching of the core contractions with the musical notes.

System and method for developing core muscle usage employing music

A wearable device and system has been developed to provide feedback to help users be able to engage specific muscle groups on cue, effectively exercise said muscle groups, and learn to engage said muscle groups before and through movements. Algorithms for identifying relaxed-to-engaged and engaged-to-relaxed transitions may be important for providing a positive user experience. The wearable device and system may be used for training effective use of the core and other muscles. A myokinesiometer is described to display target muscle engagement and body movement data simultaneously. The myokinesiometer facilitates specifying tests for protected and unprotected movement analyses.

System and method for muscle engagement identification

A wearable device has a core contraction sensor and a movement sensor which transmits signals to a processor which analyzes the signals and uses the data to control aspects of a video game. The core contraction signal may determine if the user's core is contracted or relaxed. A video game may be used with the wearable device to encourage usage of the core muscles with the player getting points or rewards for engaging their core muscles and properly timing the engagement of the core muscles with body movements. The wearable device may be used in place of, or together with conventional video game control devices. Developing the habit of using the core muscles during may be beneficial in back pain rehab and prevention, fitness training and wellness, athletic performance improvement, and reducing workplace injuries in occupations involving heavy lifting.

Video game controller using core muscles and other applications

The system includes a movement sensor and a core contraction sensor in communication with a processor. The core contraction sensor is placed on the core muscles of a user and transmits core contraction signals to the processor. The processor receives movement signals from the movement sensor and identifies user movements that are qualifying movements that benefit from core contractions. The processor also monitors the timing between the qualifying movements and the core contractions to identify protected and unprotected qualifying movements. The system can also include a memory for storing core scores that are calculated from the protected and unprotected qualifying movements, exercise information and core sensor calibration information. The core contraction information can be used to calibrate the core contraction sensor. The core contraction and movement information can be transmitted to a therapist who can monitor the user's activities and provide instructional feedback.

Wearable device and system for teaching core usage and related applications

A wearable device has a core contraction sensor and a movement sensor which transmits signals to a processor which analyzes the signals. The core contraction signal may determine if the user's core is contracted or relaxed. A video camera on a smart device may be used with the wearable device to record video of a user while data from the sensors on the wearable device are also recorded. The core contraction and movement sensor data may be sent to and viewed on the smart device display together with video of the user performing a movement. The simultaneous viewing of the video and sensor data may provide immediate feedback to the user regarding the timing of core contractions with body movements in an athletic, training, or therapeutic movement to allow the user to modify and improve coordination of core contraction with body movements to improve movement performance and achieve better results.

System and method for developing core muscle usage in athletics and therapy

Embodiments disclosed include a system and method for development of core muscles' support, comprising a means for identifying a user qualifying movement, a means for detecting a core muscle contraction in the identified qualifying movement, a means for discriminating between a core muscle contraction and no core muscle contraction in the identified qualifying movement; and a means to provide feedback to the user.

System, apparatus, and method for promoting usage of core muscles and other applications

A wearable device has user movement sensors and core contraction sensors. Signals from the sensors are transmitted to a processor which analyzes the movement signals and determines when a qualifying movement is performed which benefits from core contraction. Signals from the core contraction sensors are also transmitted to the processor and are used to determine if the core is contracted during the qualifying movement. If the core is contracted during the qualifying movement, the movement is a protected qualifying movement. However, if the core is not contracted during the qualifying movement the movement is an unprotected qualifying movement. The system can inform the user when unprotected qualifying movements are performed.

Apparatus and method for teaching and algorithms for identifying qualifying movements

A circuit comprises a vector separator circuit to generate a first extracted signal according to (i) a first correlation signal, (ii) a second correlation signal, and (iii) a relative response signal. The first correlation signal corresponds to a first correlation between an input signal and a first test signal. The first test signal has a first frequency, and the input signal includes a first spur having the first frequency. The second correlation signal corresponds to a second correlation between the input signal and a second test signal. The second test signal has a second frequency. The relative response signal corresponds to a relative response of the second frequency in the first correlation signal.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes an upconversion unit configured to upconvert a baseband signal to a radio frequency (RF) signal. A plurality of baluns for a plurality of wireless bands are provided. Multiplexing circuitry is coupled to the plurality of baluns where the upconversion unit is coupled to each balun through the multiplexing circuitry. The multiplexing circuitry is configured to multiplex the radio frequency signal from the upconversion unit to one of the plurality of baluns based on a wireless band being used.

Transmit architecture for wireless multi-mode applications

A wireless communications system includes a clock module, a global positioning system (GPS) module, an integrated circuit for a cellular transceiver, and a baseband module. The clock module is configured to generate a first clock reference that is not corrected using automatic frequency correction (AFC). The GPS module is configured to operate in response to the first clock reference. The integrated circuit includes a system phase lock loop (PLL) configured to (i) operate in response to the first clock reference, and (ii) generate a corrected clock reference by performing AFC on the first clock reference in response to an AFC signal. The baseband module is configured to (i) operate in response to the first clock reference from the clock module, and (ii) generate the AFC signal.

A receiver including a mixer, a clock generator, a plurality of capacitances, a plurality of resistances, and a controller. The mixer includes a plurality of switches. The clock generator is configured to generate clock signals to drive the plurality of switches of the mixer. The plurality of capacitances couples the clock signals to respective inputs of the plurality of switches. The plurality of resistances couples to the respective inputs of the plurality of switches. The controller is configured to output a first signal to the plurality of resistances. The first signal determines one or more attributes of the clock signals. One or more switching characteristics of the plurality of switches of the mixer are based on the one or more attributes of the clock signals.

Mixer circuits with programmable characteristics

A wireless communications system includes a clock module, a communications module, a receiver module, and a baseband module. The clock module is configured to generate a first clock reference. The communications module is configured to operate in response to the first clock reference and independent of a corrected clock reference. The corrected clock reference is generated by performing automatic frequency correction on the first clock reference according to an automatic frequency correction signal. The receiver module is configured to (i) receive radio frequency signals from a wireless medium, and (ii) in response to the corrected clock reference, generate baseband signals based on the received radio frequency signals. The baseband module is configured to (i) receive the baseband signals, and (ii) in response to a selected one of the first clock reference and the corrected clock reference, generate the automatic frequency correction signal based on the baseband signals.
