A method of manufacturing a metal cannula is disclosed. The method includes the step of providing a metal cannula having a longitudinal axis and defining a fluid channel. Next, the metal cannula is pressed to substantially close the fluid channel and define a first segment and a second segment. In a next step, the metal cannula is cut to separate the first segment from the second segment of the metal cannula. Each of the first and second segments have a pressed edge. The pressed edge substantially seals the fluid channel and has two pressed corners. Afterwards, each of the pressed corners are cut from the pressed edge of the first segment to define a pair of side openings and a distal blunt edge on the first segment. The side openings are in fluid communication with the fluid channel.

Blunt tip vial access cannula and method for manufacture

An access port for introduction of a needle cannula tip into an IV tube set includes a rigid tubular housing and a resilient member disposed within an inlet of the housing. The resilient member includes a proximal face exposed to an exterior of the rigid housing and a distal face disposed within the rigid housing. An axial perforation extends through the resilient member, and is normally closed by a resilient character of the resilient member. A depression is defined in the proximal face of the resilient member, and includes sidewalls extending between the proximal face and the axial perforation to guide the needle cannula tip toward the axial perforation as a needle cannula associated with the needle cannula tip is introduced into the access port.

Pre-pierced IV access port

A medical device including a barrel having an open first end and capable of supporting a needle at a second end of the barrel is provided and includes a lid releasably adhered to and overlying the open first end of the barrel in a fluid tight manner; and a pad secured to a surface of the lid such that the pad is disposed within a cavity of the barrel when the lid is adhered to the barrel, wherein the pad comprises a disinfecting solution.

Disclosed is a needle assembly for viewing flashback during a blood collection procedure. The needle assembly including a housing having a base portion defining a cavity and an extension extending distally from the base portion, the extension being of a transparent material and defining a lumen therethrough, a first cannula supported within the extension and extending distally from the extension, the first cannula having a piercing tip configured to enter a vessel, and a second cannula supported within the cavity of the base portion, wherein the second cannula is fluidly communicated with the first cannula via the lumen formed in the extension.

Blood collection needle assembly

An access port for the introduction of a needle cannula tip into an IV tube set includes a rigid tubular housing and a resilient member disposed adjacent an inlet of the housing. The resilient member includes an axial perforation extending through the resilient member, and is normally closed by a resilient character of the resilient member. A depression is defined in a proximal face of the resilient member, and includes sidewalls extending between the proximal face and the axial perforation to guide the needle cannula tip toward the axial perforation as a needle cannula associated with the needle cannula tip is introduced into the access port.

A safety IV catheter assembly is disclosed which includes a catheter assembly, a needle assembly and a needle guard assembly. The needle guard assembly includes a needle guard, a biasing member and a bushing. The bushing is slidably positioned about the needle and includes an inner diameter which is smaller than an enlarged diameter portion of the needle such that the needle cannot be withdrawn through the bore of the bushing.

Safety IV catheter assemblies

A safety intravenous (IV) catheter assembly is disclosed which includes a safety device having a housing defining a cavity and distal and proximal openings, and a biasing member positioned within the cavity. The biasing member is movable from a first position to a second position to tilt the housing in relation to the needle when the needle tip is withdrawn through the distal opening of the housing to misalign the needle tip and the distal opening. A blocking arm is provided on the biasing member to prevent the biasing member from moving from the second position back to the first position.

Vascular access assembly and safety device

A plurality of different vascular access assemblies are described which protect a clinician from accidental needle stick injury upon withdrawal of a needle from a catheter assembly. Each of the vascular access assemblies include a safety device for guarding the needle tip of the needle upon withdrawal of a needle from the catheter assembly.

This present disclosure provides a non-coring vial access cannula which has sufficient structural strength that it may be made from a thermoplastic resin instead of metal, thus reducing the likelihood and severity of operator injury by an accidental needle stick. The vial access cannula of the present disclosure has (i) a needle hub suitable for receiving a hypodermic syringe or an IV set (e.g., a Luer lock), (ii) a cannula portion having a centrally disposed lumen, wherein the centrally disposed lumen terminates in one or more distal openings and is in fluid communication with the needle hub, and (iii) a solid tip member distal to the one or more distal openings, wherein the solid tip member has a blade with a cutting edge.

Blunt tip vial access cannula

The invention relates to a lubricant for medical devices. The inventive lubricant uses silicone epoxy and vinyl ether that both rapidly cure when exposed to ultraviolet light or an intense electron beam. The lubricants formulated with these components in combination with a secondary silicone component and a photoinitator offer improved performance when compared to lubricants formulated from the prior art method of using a RTV+silicone fluid materials. The speed of the UV/EB cure of the new components makes lubricants formed from them more compatible with high speed manufacturing processes by eliminating the delay of prior art lengthy cure steps.

Medical device lubricant comprising radiation curable silicon material

A thoracentesis device having a hypersensitive dual spring indication mechanism for visually alerting the user of any contact to internal body organs by the blunt tip distal end of the device once the it as been inserted inside a patient's body. The thoracentesis device includes a handle and an outer needle fixedly attached thereto having a sharp distal end for penetrating a chest cavity wall and a conduit that is in communication with a cavity defined inside the handle. A dual spring-loaded inner needle is slidably disposed inside the conduit of the outer needle with the inner needle being operably is associated with a large spring that imparts a sufficient distal spring force to fully extend the blunt tip distal end of the inner needle beyond the sharp distal end of the outer needle and a small spring for imparting a smaller spring force thereto.

Thoracentesis device with hyper-sensitive detection mechanism

A thoracentesis device for removing fluid from a cavity includes a hypersensitive dual spring indication mechanism for alerting the user of any contact to internal body organs. The thoracentesis device includes a handle and an outer needle fixedly attached to the handle. The outer needle forms a sharp distal end and a spring-loaded inner needle, including a blunt tip distal end, is slidably disposed inside the conduit of the outer needle. A first spring has a first spring force that urges the inner needle into a fully extended position and a second spring has a second spring force that acts on the inner needle in opposition of the first spring force. A first and second opposite colored indicators are arranged in contact with the springs so as to alert the user to any initial contact made by the thoracentesis device.
