A power distribution system includes a macrogrid controller configured to control one or more first loads associated with a macrogrid, wherein the one or more first loads include a microgrid comprising one or more second loads and a plurality of energy resource systems; and a microgrid controller configured to receive one or more control signals from the macrogrid controller and control a power connection of the microgrid to the macrogrid based on the one or more control signals. The microgrid controller is configurable in a grid-connected mode, during which the microgrid is connected to the macrogrid, and a stand-alone mode, during which the microgrid is disconnected from the macrogrid, and wherein the microgrid controller is configured to operate in the grid-connected mode or in the stand-alone mode based on the one or more control signals.

An energy storage device cooling system includes a housing, at least one energy storage device within the housing, and a coolant circuit including a first flow portion extending through the housing, the coolant circuit configured to supply coolant for heat exchange with the at least one energy storage device. The energy storage device cooling system also includes a chiller system including: a coolant supply, a heat exchanger, and an outlet in fluid communication with the first flow portion. The energy storage device cooling system also includes a controller configured to alter a function of the chiller system when a sensed temperature does not exceed a first temperature threshold.

A second coolant circuit, through which a second coolant circulates, includes the heat exchanger configured to cool the second coolant using the first coolant, an energy storage unit cooled by the second coolant, and a refrigeration unit configured to cool the second coolant. A coolant temperature sensor outputs a temperature of the coolant in the second coolant circuit, and a controller controls at least the refrigeration unit based on the temperature of the coolant output by the coolant temperature sensor.

An anti-flicker and anti-glow switchable load apparatus to be installed in the light socket of a commonly powered electronic switching device, such as a motion activated light switch. An energy efficient light bulb or lamp, such as a cathode fluorescent lamp or light emitting diode is then electrically connected to the apparatus. A first embodiment of the present invention includes a switchable light source, a switchable load, a controller, and a voltage sensor. When the present invention in the first embodiment detects a higher voltage, thus indicating the lamp has been switched from the 'off' state to the on state, the switchable load is disconnected, and the current is re-routed to pass through the energy efficient lamp.

High efficiency light compatibility device

A micro grid power system includes a plurality of generator sets, a photovoltaic system, an external load, and a controller. Each generator set includes an engine and a sensor to determine a temperature of exhaust gases exiting the engine. The photovoltaic system includes a plurality of photovoltaic panels for generating power. The external load is powered by the plurality of generator sets and the photovoltaic system. The controller is configured to determine the external load, and control the plurality of generator sets to maintain the temperature above a threshold temperature. The controller is further configured to determine a remaining load which is the external load subtracted by a portion of the external load powered by the plurality of generator sets, and control the photovoltaic system to power the remaining load.

A variable speed genset system is provided that may include a primary power source, an electric machine, an energy storage device, a boost converter, and a controller. The electric machine may be coupled to the primary power source and electrically coupled to a load through a common bus. The boost converter may be in electrical communication with the common bus and the energy storage device. The controller may determine a State of Health (SOH) for the energy storage device, selectively engage the energy storage device to provide a first power amount to the common bus, and selectively change the operating speed of the primary power source to provide a second power amount to the common bus, the speed based on the SOH, a temperature of the energy storage device, and the load demand. The combination of the first and second power amounts substantially meet a load power demand.

The minimum speed governor determines a rate of change of the throttle signal, and transmits a minimum engine speed signal indicative of a desired minimum engine speed of the engine as a function of the rate of change of the throttle signal.

And, depending on the results of the evaluation, a directional control valve directs the flow of intake air to a supercharger or to the engine. The supercharger is driven by a motor having a variable rate of speed as compared to the engine.
